Quality Controls (high, Prepared from human blood NA NA
middle)
SECTION 3 鈥? HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Special indication of hazards to humans and the environment:
The Fluorescent substrate contains DMSO in total concentration less than 90% and is not classified as 鈥渉azardous鈥?
according to Directive 67/548/EC.
The standards and quality controls were prepared from human blood. A sanitary control has been completed including
virology tests: HbsAg, anti-HIV-1 & 2 Ab, anti-HBc Ab, anti-HCV Ab, anti-HTLV1 & 2 Ab and syphilis serology.
Samples were negative however, handle the standards and the Quality Controls as a possible source of infection.
SECTION 4 鈥? FIRST AID MEASURES
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
In case of skin contact, immediately wash skin with soap and copious amounts of water.
In case of contact with eyes, immediately flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes.
If swallowed, wash out mouth with water provided person is conscious. Call a physician.
SECTION 5 鈥? FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Extinguish media:
Suitable: water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder, or appropriate foam.
Special risks:
Specific hazard(s): emits toxic fumes under fire conditions
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to
prevent contact with skin and eyes.
SECTION 6 鈥? ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Procedure(s) of personal precaution(s):
Wear an approved respirator, rubber boots, chemical safety goggles and heavy rubber gloves .
Environmental precaution(s):
Avoid contaminating sewers and waterways with this material.
Methods for cleaning up:
Cover with dry-lime, sand or soda ash. Place in covered containers using non-sparking tools and transport outdoors.
Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.

SECTION 8 鈥? EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering controls:
Safety shower and eye bath. Mechanical exhaust required.
General hygiene measures:
Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Personal protective equipment:
Respiratory protection: Use respirators and components tested and approved under appropriate governemtn
standards such as NIOSH(US) or CEN(EU). Where risk assessment shows air-purifying respirators are appropriate
use a full-face respirator with multi-purpose combination (US) or type ABEK (EN 14387) respirator cartridges as a
backup to engineering controls. If the respirator is the sole means of protection, use a full-face supplied air respirator.
Hand protection: Compatible chemical-resistant gloves.
Eye protection: chemical safety goggles.
Body protection: Chemical Resistant apron.
SECTION 9 鈥? PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Physical state: liquid (Fluorescent substrate)

Melting point ( C): No data.

Boiling point ( C): No data.

Flash point ( C): 94掳 Method: Closed up
C
Inflammability: No data.

Vapour tension ( C): No data.
Solubility in water: Soluble.
SECTION 10 鈥? STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
Stability:
Stable.
Conditions to be avoided: Light. Moisture.
Materials to avoid: acids chlorides, phosphorus halides, strong acids, strong oxidizing agents, strong reducing agents.
Hazardous decomposition products: Unknown
Hazardous exothermic reactions: DMSO undergoes a violent exothermic reaction on mixing copper wool and
trichloroacetic acid. On mixing with potassium permanganate it will flash instantaneously. It reacts violently with acid
halides, cyanuric chloride, silicon tetrachloride, phosphorus trichloride and trioxide, thionyl chloride, magnesium
perchlorate, silver fluoride, methyl bromide, iodine pentafluoride, nitrogen periodate, diborane, sodium hydride, and
perchloric and periodic acids. When heated above its boiling point, DMSO degrades giving off formaldehyde, methyl
mercaptan and sulphur dioxide.
SECTION 11 鈥? TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Signs and symptoms of exposure:
to the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have not be thoroughly investigated.
Route of exposure:
Skin contact: may cause skin irritation.
Skin absorption: readily absorbed through skin. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Eye contact: May cause eye irritation.
Inhalation: material may be irritating to mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. May be harmful if inhaled.
Ingestion: may be harmful if swallowed.
Target organ information: Eyes. Skin.
Conditions aggravated by exposure: avoid contact with DMSO solutions containing toxic materials or materials with
unknown toxicological properties. DMSO is readily absorbed though skin and may carry such materials into the body.
SECTION 12 鈥? ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
No data available
