HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Health Effects
Acute - Material is irritating and mildly corrosive if swallowed. Ingestion may result in nausea,
Swallowed abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting.
Acute - Eye The dust is highly irritating and abrasive to the eyes. Dust is capable of causing pain and
conjunctivitis.
Acute - Skin Dust is irritating and may cause drying of the skin. Mixed material is moderately irritating to the
skin. Constant contact with the skin may cause drying of the skin which may lead to dermatitis
and may cause, in some cases, sensitisation.
Acute - Inhalation of dust may cause irritation of the respiratory tract. Over exposure to respirable dust
Inhaled may cause coughing, wheezing and irritation of the nasal passsages.
Chronic Long term over-exposure to respirable silica (crystalline quartz/sand) dust can lead to onset of
the lung disease, silicosis. Silicosis can lead to the development of other serious diseases.
Silica is listed on IARC listing.
While this product contains negligible amounts of respirable silica dust, exposure to fine dust
should be avoided.
Sensitisation, by repeated or prolonged skin contact, may result in allergic dermatitis responses
including rash, itching, swelling of extremities, redness and irritation.
First Aid
Swallowed If swallowed, rinse out mouth with water, give patient water to drink and
seek immediate medical advice. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons
Information Centre. Do not induce vomiting.
Eye Flush with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. Ensure irrigation under eyelids
also. Seek medical attention.
Skin Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use. Wash skin thoroughly
with soap and water. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Exposure Exposure standards for the hazardous components are as follows (NOHSC-1995):
Limits Dust NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) TWA: 10mg/m3 - inspirable dust
Crystalline silica (quartz) TWA: 0.2mg/m3 - respirable dust
TWA is the time weighted average concentration of the work atmosphere over a
normal 8-hour work day and a 40-hour work week. Nearly all workers may be
repeatedly exposed to this level, day after day, without adverse effect.
These TWAs are issued as guidelines for good practice. All atmospheric
contamination should be kept to as low a level as is practically possible.
These TWAs should not be used as fine lines between safe and dangerous
concentrations.
Eng. Controls Avoid generating dust. If dust generated while handling or mixing or when
sanding or drilling the hardened product in an enclosed or poorly
ventilated area, local dust extraction is recommended. Work areas should be
cleaned regularly by wet sweeping or vacuuming.
Personal Protection
Protective Avoid contact with skin and eyes and avoid inhaling dust.
Equip. The following personal protective equipment is recommended:
PVC rubber gloves
Safety goggles or glasses with side shields.
Respiratory protection complying to AS/NZ 1715 & 1716 if ventilation inadequate to ensure the
recommended exposure standards are not exceeded.
Flammability
Fire Hazards Material does not burn.
