Section 3 - Hazards Identification
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
******************************************************************************
Emergency Overview:
Black liquid. Can cause headache, dizziness, drownsiness, or irritation to
the skin, eyes and respiratory system. If inhaled leave area to breathe
fresh air. Avoid further overexposure. If symptoms persist, get medical
attention immediately.
******************************************************************************
Potential Hlth Effect/Rte of Entry:
-----------------------------------
Inhalation:
Mist or vapor may cause respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged exposure to
airborne concentrations significantly beyond workplace exposure limits can
cause respiratory difficulty, convulsions, and possible cardiovascular
collapse.
Eyes:
Vapor and liquid may cause irritation. Repeated or prolonged exposure may
cause eye damage. Hot material can burn eye tissue, possibly resulting in
loss of eyesight.
Ingestion:
May cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, central nervous
system depression and vascular, liver, kidney and pancreatic effects at high
concentration or distress if swallowed. Aspiration during swallowing or

vomiting may cause lung damage and may be fatal.
Skin:
Liquid can cause skin irritation and dermatitis, including acne. Coal tar
pitch is a phototoxic substance which in the presence of ultraviolet light
(sunlight), can cause a skin reaction similar to an exaggerated sunburn,
blisters, and skin discoloration if not removed from the skin immediately.
Hot material can cause severe heat burns. May be absorbed through the
skin, eyes and mucous membranes and contribute significantly to exposure.
Aggravated Medical Conditions:
Preexiting eye, skin, respiratory and cardiovascular disorders may be
aggravated by exposure.
Acute Health Effects:
See effects described above.
Chronic Health Effects:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may result in irritation, dermatitis and
other skin and CNS effects described above. Long-term exposure to coal tar
and coal tar pitch volatiles can cause changes in skin pigmentation, growths
on the skin, or skin cancer. It may cause cancer of the lung, kidneys or
bladder. Overexposure to benzene can cause blood disorders ranging from
anemia to leukemia. Fillers are encapsulated and not expected to be
released in product under normal conditions of use. Crystalline
silica(quartz) may cause cancer, but only limited evidence in humans.
Prolonged and repeated overexposure to free crystalline silica dust above
the TLV level may cause scarring of the lungs with cough and shortness of
breath. A delayed lung injury, silicosis may result from breathing free
silica.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 4 - First Aid Measures
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inhalation:
Leave area to breathe fresh air. Avoid further overexposure. If symptoms
persist, get medical attention immediately.
Eyes:
Flush immediately with running water for 15 minutes, lifting the upper and
lower lids occasionaly. Get medical attention immediately.
Ingestion:
Get medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting.

Skin:
Wash area of contact thoroughly with hand cleaner followed by soap and
water. If irritation, rash or other disorders develop, get medical
attention immediately.

Release Response Overview:
Absorb spill in sand, earth or other suitable material.Transfer to DOT
approved container for disposal.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 7 - Handling and Storage
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Handling and Storage Precautions:
Store in closed container below 80F. Keep product and vapor away from heat,
sparks and flame. Do not store in direct sunlight. Prevent inhalation of
vapor, ingestion, and contact with skin and eyes. Keep container closed
when not in use. Vapor may migrate to sources of ignition. Do not smoke,
weld, generate sparks, or use flame near container. Change soiled
workclothes frequently. Clean hands thoroughly after handling. To prevent
gases, vapors or fumes from migrating into occupied sections of the
building, close or cover all openings including windows, doors and air
intakes during and after application until gases, vapors or fumes
dissipate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 8 - Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Respiratory:
Wear appropriate, properly fitted NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator when the
airborne contaminant level(s) exceed the exposure limits indicated on the
MSDS. Follow respirator manufacturer's directions for respirator use.

Skin:
Prevent contact with skin. Protect hands with impervious rubber gloves.
Gloves must be checked before each use for signs of degradation and
penetration and for proper functioning. Workers must be fully clothed and
must wear protective cream or other protective barrier on exposed skin.
Eyes:
Chemical splash goggles.
Face:
Face shield is recommended.
Engineering:
Use local exhaust when the general ventilation is not sufficient to keep
the airborne contaminant concentration below the exposure limit in Section
II of the MSDS.
