EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Appearance: colorless
Warning! Harmful. May cause irritation with possible injury by all exposure routes.
Target Organs: none known.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye irritation.
Skin:
Causes mild skin irritation.
Ingestion:
Fluoride can reduce calcium levels leading to fatal hypocalcemia. Potassium fluoride-- 500mg/M3 immediately
dangerous to life and health. Ingestion may cause salivation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Potassium
may cause lowered blood pressure, coma, and death.
Material Safety Data Sheet
Potassium fluoride, 40-50%

Inhalation:
Inhalation causes choking, nausea lasting several days.
Chronic:
Chronic inhalation and ingestion may cause fluorosis with skeletal abnormalities. Chronic exposure to fluoride
compounds may cause systemic toxicity. May cause dermatitis and conjunctivitis. Intake of more than 6mg of fluoride
per day results in fluorosis. Symptoms are weight loss, brittleness of bones, anemia, weakness, stiffness of joints.

Section 4 - First Aid Measures
Eyes:
Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids until no evidence
of chemical remains. Get medical aid at once. Cover burns with loose sterile non-medicated bandages.
Skin:
Get medical aid. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing
contaminated clothing and shoes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Cover burns with a dry sterile bandage
(secure, not tight).
Ingestion:
Get medical aid at once. If victim is conscious, give soluble calcium in any form (milk, calcium lactate).
Concentration of calcium should be 10gm/250mL water.
Inhalation:
Give artificial respiration if necessary. Get medical aid. Keep victim warm, at rest. Move victim to fresh air.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures
General Information:
Negligible fire and explosion hazard when exposed to heat or flame. Avoid breathing corrosive vapors. Move
container if possible, avoid breathing vapors or dust.
Extinguishing Media:
For small fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray or alcohol-resistant foam.
Autoignition Temperature:
No information found.
Flash Point:

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures
General Information:
Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Material Safety Data Sheet
Potassium fluoride, 40-50%

Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spills with absorbent (vermiculite, sand, fuller's earth) and place in plastic bags for later disposal. For large
spills, dike far ahead of spill for later disposal. Do not touch spilled material.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid breathing dust, vapor, mist, or gas.
Storage:
Store capped at room temperature. Protect from heat and incompatibles.
