**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Limited evidence of
a carcinogenic effect.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye irritation.
Skin:
Causes skin irritation. Harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation with
nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Inhalation:
Causes respiratory tract irritation. Harmful if inhaled.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. May cause
liver and kidney damage. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause
nausea, dizziness, and headache. Narcotic in high concentrations.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing
and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4
cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do NOT use
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If breathing has ceased apply
artificial respiration using oxygen and a suitable mechanical device
such as a bag and a mask.
Notes to Physician:
Effects may be delayed. Treat symptomatically and supportively.

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Water runoff can cause environmental damage. Dike
and collect water used to fight fire. Material will not burn. During
a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by
thermal decomposition or combustion. Vapors may be heavier than air.
They can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined
areas.
Extinguishing Media:
Substance is noncombustible; use agent most appropriate to
extinguish surrounding fire. Use agent most appropriate to extinguish
fire. Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate
foam.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth),
then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and
ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately,
observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Provide
ventilation.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash hands before eating. Remove
contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use only in a
well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.
Do not ingest or inhale.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep
containers tightly closed.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate
ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
Exposure Limits
CAS# 107-04-0:

Personal Protective Equipment

Eyes:
Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical
safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face
protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European
Standard EN166.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin
exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin
exposure.
Respirators:
A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29
CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements or European
Standard EN 149 must be followed whenever workplace
conditions warrant respirator use.

**** SECTION 11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION ****

RTECS#:
CAS# 107-04-0: KH6500000
LD50/LC50:
CAS# 107-04-0: Oral, rat: LD50 = 64 mg/kg.
Carcinogenicity:
1-Bromo-2-chloroethane -
Not listed by ACGIH, IARC, or NTP.
Other:
See actual entry in RTECS for complete information.

**** SECTION 12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION ****

Ecotoxicity:
Estimated BCF value = 9.6. This value suggests that
1-Bromo-2-chloroethane is not expected to bioconcentrate in aquatic
organisms-it will be primarily lost by volatization. Estimated Koc
value = 34. This value indicates that this product would not absorb
appreciably to soil or sediment and may leach into the ground.
1-Bromo-2-chloroethane will degrade slowly in the stmosphere by
reacting with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals.
