**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Reacts violently with water. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system
and skin.Water-reactive.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes severe eye irritation and possible burns.
Skin:
Contact with skin causes irritation and possible burns, especially
if the skin is wet or moist. May be harmful if absorbed through the
skin.
Ingestion:
May cause severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea,
vomiting and possible burns. May cause corrosion and permanent
tissue destruction of the esophagus and digestive tract. May be
harmful if swallowed.
Inhalation:
Causes respiratory tract irritation. Inhalation may be fatal as a
result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx and bronchi,
chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. May cause central nervous
system effects.
Chronic:
No information found.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at
least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4
cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Get medical aid.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not
breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult,
give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively.

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Water Reactive. Material will react with water and
may release a flammable and/or toxic gas. Substance is
noncombustible. Vapors may be heavier than air. They can spread
along the ground and collect in low or confined areas. Contact with
water forms corrosive vapors.
Extinguishing Media:
Use extinguishing media most appropriate for the surrounding fire.
DO NOT USE WATER!

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth),
then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and
ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately,
observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Provide
ventilation. Do not expose spill to water.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Keep container tightly closed. Do not get on skin or in eyes. Avoid
ingestion and inhalation. Do not ingest or inhale. Do not allow
contact with water. Use only in a chemical fume hood. Wash clothing
before reuse.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place. Store in a tightly closed container.
Keep under a nitrogen blanket.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate
ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
Exposure Limits
CAS# 10026-04-7:
United Kingdom, WEL - TWA: (listed as silica, amorphous): 6 mg/m3
(inhalable dust); 2.4 mg/m3 TWA (respirable dust)
United Kingdom, WEL - STEL: (listed as silica, amorphous): 18 mg/
STEL (inhalable dust); 7.2 mg/m3 STEL (respirable dust)

Russia: (listed as silica, amorphous): 1 mg/m3 TWA

Personal Protective Equipment

Eyes:
Wear chemical splash goggles.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin
exposure.
Clothing:
Wear a chemical apron.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29
CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a
NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved
respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if
irritation or other symptoms are experienced.

**** SECTION 10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY ****

Chemical Stability:
Stable under normal temperatures and pressures. Reacts with water to
form Silicic acid and Hydrogen chloride, a toxic and corrosive gas.
Generally chlorosilanes are considered non-corrosive in their
natural, dry state, but become corrosive when in contact with water
or moisture.
Conditions to Avoid:
High temperatures, incompatible materials, exposure to moist air or
water.
Incompatibilities with Other Materials:
Metals, strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases,
alcohols, amines, ammonia, dimethyl sulfoxide, glass, potassium,
dimethyl formamide, sodium, aldehydes (e.g. acetaldehyde, acrolein,
chloral, formaldehyde), esters (e.g. butyl acetate, ethyl acetate,
propyl formate), ketones (e.g. acetone, acetophenone, MEK, MIBK).
Hazardous Decomposition Products:
Hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of
silicon.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.
