Important information: The battery is sealed hermetically. The ingredients have no hazard potential, except the battery is
violated or dismantled.

3. Hazard identification
If the battery is faultless and the measures for handling and storage (chapter 7) are followed there is no hazard.
Attention: The battery contents should not get in contact with water. If the negative electrode gets in contact with water or
humidity small amounts of hydrogen gas are formed..

4. First aid measures
Measures at accidental release
A. In case of contact with solid components
After skin contact : Remove solid particles immediately. Flush affected areas with plenty of water (min 15
minutes). Remove contaminated clothes immediately.
Seek for medical assistance.
After eye contact: Rinse affected eye with lukewarm water by opened eyelid (min. 15 minutes).
Seek for medical assistance.
After ingestion: Drink a plenty of water. Avoid vomiting. Seek for medical assistance.
No trials for neutralization.

B. In case of contact with liquid components (electrolyte)
After inhalation : Inhale a cortisone spray, e.g. Pulmicort. Fresh air. Seek for medical assistance.
After skin contact : Flush affected areas with plenty of water (min 15 minutes). Remove contaminated
clothes immediately. Seek for medical assistance.
After eye contact: Rinse affected eye with lukewarm water by opened eyelid (min. 15 minutes). Seek for
medical assistance.

After ingestion: Drink a plenty of water. Avoid vomiting. Seek for medical assistance.
No trials for neutralization.

5. Fire-Fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing agents: For fighting initial fires, extinguishing agents of fireclass B are recommended (Water
atomizers and CO2.
For fighting advanced fires, foam and Powder are recommended.
Inappropriate extinguishing Water
agents:
Special protective equipment Wear contamination protective clothing and a self -contained breathing apparatus.
for fire fighting:
Special hazard: Under fire conditions, the electrode materials can form carcinogenic nickel and cobalt
oxides.
Attention: Avoid the release of used extinguishing agents into surface water or groundwater.
If necessary, absorb water or foam with appropriate solid materials. Dispose the used
extinguishing agents properly.

6. Accidental release measures
Person related measures: Wear personal protective equipment adapted to the situation (protection gloves,
clothes, face protection, breathing protection).
Environment protection Collect all released material with absorptive material in a plastic lined container.
measures: Dispose off according to the local law and rules.
Avoid released substances to get into the earth, canalization or waters.
Treatment for cleaning: If battery casing is dismantled, small amounts of electrolyte may leak. Pack the
battery including ingredients as described above. Then clean with water.

7. Handling and storage
Advice for safe handling: Always follow the warning notices on batteries and the instruction manuals
von devices. Only use recommended battery types.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
With respect to devices to be used by children, the battery casing should be
protected against unauthorized opening.
Do leave unpacked batteries loosely .
Do not mix batteries (when replacing batteries, replace all of them at the same time
with new batteries of the same brand and type).
Do not swallow.
Do not throw batteries into water.
Do not heat batteries.
Do not dispose off batteries in fire.
Avoid deep-discharge of batteries.
Do not short-circuit batteries.
Do not charge.
Detailed information about use of the batteries can be found in IEC 60086-5,
chapter 7
Storage conditions: Store the batteries preferably at 20掳C and in a dry place. Avoid high temperature
fluctuations. Do not store next to heaters. Avoid direct solar radiation. At higher
temperatures the shelf life is decreased.

Optimum state of charge for storage: fully charged (OCV approx. 1.28 V).

Storage of unpacked batteries loosely together may cause a short and heat evolution.

Storage of large quantities: If possible store in original packaging.
A fire alarm system is recommended.

VCI Guideline for storage: The application of safety advice for storage class 11 (鈥渃ombustible solids鈥?) is
recommended.

8. Exposure controls/personal protection
Under normal conditions (during discharge) release of ingredients does not occur.
In the event of release of ingredients, the following TLVs have to be considered (U.S.A.):

10. Stability and reactivity
Dangerous reactions By heating over a temperature of 100掳C there is he danger of bursting.

11. Toxicological information
Under normal conditions (during discharge) release of ingredients does not occur. If accidental release occurs see
information in Handling Precautions, chapter 2.
Swallowing of a battery can be harmful. Call the local Poison Control Centre for advice and follow -up.

12. Ecological information
Lithium batteries do not contain hazardous materials according to European directive 91/157/EEC and 93/86/EEC.

13. Disposal considerations
To avoid short circuit and heating, large amounts of lithium batteries should never be stored or transported in bulk. Proper
measures against short circuit are:
鈥? Storage of batteries in original packaging
鈥? Coverage of the terminals
鈥? Embedding in dry sand
Primary lithium batteries may be disposed of via the communal refuse arrangements, provided that no local rules to the
contrary exist.

14. Transport information
General considerations
The batteries are not subjected to the transport regulations of dangerous goods, because they fulfill the following
requirements (Special provisions ADR 188, IATA A45, IMDG 188, DOT / 49 CFR provision 173.185):
鈥? The lithium content of a cell is not more than 1 g.
鈥? The batteries passed the tests according to 38.3 of the UN handbook of tests and criteria.
鈥? The batteries are isolated in the packaging to avoid short circuits.
鈥? The packs are marked with a warning notice, that clearly states that the pack contains lithium batteries and must be
quarantined, inspected and repacked if damaged.
鈥? The total mass must not exceed 30 kg per pack.
U.S.A.: Transportation of Primary Lithium Batteries
Effective December 29, 2004, the DOT requires that the outside of each package that contains primary lithium batteries,
regardless of size or number of batteries, be labeled with the following statement: "PRIMARY LITHIUM BATTERIES-
FORBIDDEN FOR TRANSPORT ABOARD PASSENGER AIRCRA FT". The labeling requirement covers shipments via
highway, rail, vessel or cargo-only aircraft and covers all shipments inside, into or out of the US. The label must be in
contrasting color and the letters must be 12 mm (0.5 in) in height for packages weighing more than 30 Kg and 6 mm
(0.25 in) in height for packages weighting less than 30 Kg.
U.S.A.: Transportation of Primary Lithium Batteries, contained in equipment
Transport aboard a passenger carrying aircraft (49 CFR, 172.102 SP A102) is only allowed if:
鈥? The package contains no more than the number of lithium batteries or cells necessary to power the intended piece

of equipment;
鈥? The equipment containing the battery or cell is packed in strong packagings; and
鈥? The net weight of the package does not exceed 5 kg.
