MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET

HMIS (Hazard Materials Identification System):
Health 0 (least severe)
Flammability 0 "
Reactivity 0 "
Personal Protection: If frequently exposed to airborne dust, wear a dust mask such as NIOSH 95 Particulate series
or equivalent. Use goggles and/or gloves if eye and/or skin irritation occurs.
1. PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION
Trade Name: Protect-It庐 (EPA Reg. No. 66923-2, PCP #24259)
Generic Names: Diatomaceous earth (CAS 61790-53-2), Silica gel (CAS 112926-00-8)
Chemical Name: Amorphous silicon dioxide
Formula: Predominately SiO2
Manufacturer: Hedley Technologies (USA), Inc.
Addresses: P.O. Box 222O, Blaine, WA 98231
2601 Matheson Blvd. E, S. 5, Mississauga, ON Canada L4W 5A8
Phone: 1-888-476-4473, Fax 905-206-1413, www.hedleytech.com
2. FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Drink water to clear throat and blow nose to evacuate dust.
Eyes: Flush eyes with large quantities of water. If irritation persists consult a physician.
Other: Wash skin with water if excessive dryness occurs.
3. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flash point: Non-flammable
Flammable limits (LEL & UEL) NA (Not Applicable)
Extinguishing Media: NA
Unusual fire or explosion hazards: NA
Special fire fighting procedures: NA
NFPA Flammable/Combustible Liquid Classification: NA
Auto-ignition temperature: NA
4. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
Primary entry routes: Inhalation and dust contact with eyes. Inhalation may result in irritation, soreness of nose,
sinuses and throat. In extreme cases some congestion may occur. Eyes may become dry or inflamed.
Not hazardous when ingested. Skin may become dry, but no absorption occurs.
Acute health effects: Transitory upper respiratory or eye irritation.
Medical conditions which may be aggravated: Pre-existing conditions such as upper respiratory and lung diseases
such as, but not limited to, silicosis, bronchitis, emphysema and asthma, conjunctivitis of the eye, and
severe dermatitis. Target organs are the lungs and eyes.
Chronic health effects: This product contains natural (uncalcined) diatomaceous earth and synthetic amorphous
silica which are considered health hazards when inhaled over long periods of time (years). Long term
inhalation of these materials can cause silicosis, a noncancerous lung disease. Use of a dust mask during
application prevents this hazard.
5. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Procedures for spill/leak: Wear a suitable dust mask. Vacuum with equipment fitted with HEPA filter or sweep
using a dust suppressant such as water.
6. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handling: Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with eyes. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Avoid
buildup of static electrical charge by proper grounding of handling and application equipment. Seal broken
containers immediately.
Storage: Store in a dry location.

7. EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION
Ventilation: Wear a dust mask when applying this product - PEL will be exceeded. Avoid wind and use of fans to
keep respirable dust below maximum PEL (3 mg/M3, see Section 9, below) after dust has settled
(generally one to two hours).
Respirator (dust mask): NIOSH 95 particulate series or equivalent is required for commercial application.
Goggles: Recommended if eye irritation occurs.
Gloves and protective clothing: Gloves, long pants and long sleeves recommended if skin irritation occurs.
8. ENVIRONMENTAL AND DISPOSAL INFORMATION
Environmental: This product is chemically inert and is not hazardous as defined by RCRA (40 CFR 261). It is not
toxic to plants or animals (except insects, arachnids and land gastropods when dry).
Disposal: Continue to follow all MSDS and Label warnings when handling empty containers. If this product
absorbs chemicals or other liquids it should only be disposed in an approved landfill. Otherwise dispose in
regular trash.
