CAPROLACTAM
Animal data
Oral LD50, rat 930 - 2500mg/kg
8160 mg/m3 (4hr)
Inhalation LD50, rat
13 Week Inhalation Toxicity Study of Caprolactam in the Rat via Whole body Exposure 鈥? The
Study involved daily six 鈥揾ours dust exposure, five days per week at levels of 0 (control), 23,66
and 245mg/m3. Signs of mild irritation were observed at all levels. However, Histopathological
results indicate irritation effects at the 66 and 245 mg/m3 levels only. There were neurotoxic
effects or systemic signs of toxicity. There were no effects on lower respiratory system. The
NOEL for non irritant effects was 245 mg/m3. Skin irritation Study in the rabbit (24Hour
occluded application) 鈥? negligible to mild irritation.

GLASS FIBERS:
INHALATION: Respirable fibers can penetrate to the 鈥渄eep鈥? lung area.
According to WHO, man made mineral fibers with diameter equal or greater than 3 microns
are not respirable. According to NIOSH fibers with diameters equal to or greater than 3.5micons
are non respirable. The glass fibers used in this product have a diameter of 10 鈥? 13microns.
The effect in mice from single exposure by intratrachaeal instillation with fiber Glass include an
inflammatory response. Repeated inhalation exposure invoked pulmonary macrophage reactions
similar to biologically inert dusts.
Tests in some animals with Fiber Glass demonstrate carcinogenic activity. However, these
studies were by artificial implantation or injection of fine glass fibers into the chest, abdominal
cavity, or trachea and are judged to be irrelevant to industrial exposure. Chronic inhalation
exposure of animals to fiber glass at low concentrations produced minimal fibrosis in one study
and no effects in a different study.

However, during the transport, manipulation, process and handling of parts made from
this material, a direct contact with airborne carbon black or airborne glass fiber is not
expected because the carbon black is fully encapsulated in a mass of high molecular weight
polymer.
