Extinguishing Media: Foam, Dry Chemical, Carbon Dioxide, Water Spray
Unusual Fire or Explosion Hazards: Smoke contains hydrogen chloride gas. Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and
full protective gear.
Hazardous Combustion Products: Hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other partially oxidized
hydrocarbons may form during a fire.
Fire-Fighting Instructions: Material is fire retardant and self-extinguishing, but will burn in a large fire. This material can
produce acrid smoke in a large fire.
Fire-Fighting Equipment: Because fire may produce toxic thermal decomposition products, wear a self-contained breathing
apparatus (SCBA) with a full facepiece operated in pressure-demand or positive-pressure mode and full protective gear.
Section 5 - Stability and Reactivity
Stability: This product is stable.
Polymerization: Hazardous polymerization cannot occur.
Chemical Incompatibilities: Avoid exposure to strong oxidizing agents.
Conditions to Avoid: Temperatures above 400 F.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Hydrogen chloride
Substances evolved during Curing: Not applicable. Material does not cure under normal conditions of use.
Section 6 - Health Hazard Information
Potential Health Effects
Primary Entry Routes: Eye and Skin Contact, Inhalation
Page 2 of 4
Revision: 4 Duxseal MSDS No. 10418
Target Organs: Eyes, Skin and Upper Respiratory System.
Acute Effects: There are no anticipated acute health hazards when this material is handled within the normal range of usage.
The talc, mineral wool, diatomite and quartz in this mixture pose a health hazard in the form of dust. These four compounds are
bound within the putty and no respiratory hazards are expected.
Inhalation: May cause slight respiratory tract irritation.
Eye: Mechanical Irritant.
Skin: May cause slight transitory irritation to sensitive skin.
Ingestion: May cause slight discomfort.
Carcinogenicity: This product contains mineral wool which is considered a possible human carcinogen by IARC based on
animal inhalation studies.
Synergistic Effects: None Known
Reproductive Toxin: No
Teratogen: No
Mutagen: No
Medical Conditions Aggravated by Long-Term Exposure: None known
Chronic Effects: There are no anticipated chronic health effects when this material is handled within the normal range of usage.
Talc dust can produce fibrotic lung changes. Mineral wool dust has caused peribronchial sclerosis in animal experiments.
Diatomaceous earth dust may cause fibrosis of the lungs. Prolonged inhalation of quartz may cause silicosis. However, there
are no dusts associated with this product.

IARC has classified man-made vitreous fibers (MMVF) as a possible human carcinogen based on animal inhalation studies using
ceramic fibers and fiberglass. Several research studies using animals have shown that breathing air borne MMVF does not
cause any lung cancer or other lung disease. Industry studies of mineral manufacturing workers are being expanded to
investigate what effects other occupational exposures and lifestyle had on these workers. For example, smoking by these
workers was found to contribute to the higher incidence of lung cancer.

Emergency and First Aid Procedures
Inhalation: Not considered a hazard under normal conditions of use.
Eye Contact: Flush eyes with clean running water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, consult a physician.
Skin Contact: Wash affected areas with mild soap and warm water.
Ingestion: Drink water and seek emergency medical attention. DO NOT induce vomiting.
Note to Physicians: Not Available
Special Precautions/Procedures: None Known
Section 7 - Spill, Leak, and Disposal Procedures
Spill /Leak Procedures: Pick up or sweep up waste.
Small Spills: Pick up or sweep up waste.
Large Spills: Pick up or sweep up waste.
Containment: Not Applicable.
Cleanup: No special personal protective equipment required.
Regulatory Requirements: Comply with Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations.
Disposal: In manufactured form, not a RCRA regulated waste. Comply with Federal, state, provincial and local regulations.
Recycle when possible. Preferred method of disposal 鈥? landfill
Disposal Regulatory Requirements: None known
