Delayed (Subchronic & Chronic) Effects
Subchronic: Fischer 344 Rats 鈥? Slightly Toxic 鈥? 20,000 ppm. Chronic
Inhalation:20,000 ppm 鈥? Interim Report. Male rats exposed
by inhalation to 5000 ppm or greater (6hour/day, 5days
/week for 2 years) were found to have a small but
statistically significant number of late developing benign
testicular tumours. NOEL 1,500 ppm.
Acute Effects:
Emergency Overview: Colourless, Volatile liquid with ethereal and faint sweetish
odour. Non-flammable material. Overexposure may cause
dizziness and loss of concentration. At higher levels,
depression and cardiac arrhythmia may result from
exposure. Vapours displace air and can cause asphyxiation
in confined spaces. At high temperatures (>250潞C),
decomposition products may include Hydrochloric Acid
(HCI), Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) and carbonyl halides, such as
phosgene.

Swallowed: Ingestion is an unlikely route of exposure. Similar
symptoms as for inhalation. Discomfort due to volatility of
the solvent would be expected. Also, in sufficient
quantities, can cause eye damage including blindness due
to the methanol component.

epinephrine, should be used with special caution only in situations of emergency life
support. Treatment of overexposure should be directed at the control of symptoms
and the clinical conditions.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Risk Phrases are: R22. Harmful if swallowed.
Exposure Standards
A TWA value of 262 and a STEL value of 328 has been established for a significant
ingredient of his product. Values expressed as mg/m3. Exposurevalues at the STEL
(Short Term Exposure Limit) is an exposure value thatshould not be exceeded for
more than 15 minutes and should not be repeated for more than 4 times per day.
There should be at least 60 minutes between successive exposures at the STEL.
Exposure values at the TWA (Time Weighted Average) means the average airborne
concentration of a particular substance when calculated over a normal 8-hour
working day for 5-day working week. See ingredient section on Page 1 of this data
sheet.

Engineering Controls:
Respiratory Protection: A facemask or respiratory may be used when the product
is being used in dusty or confined areas. Otherwise it is

Safety Phrases are: S20. When using, do not eat or drink.
Storage & Transport:
No special storage and transport requirement. This material has no UN Classification.
Not a scheduled poison. This product boils at 29.4 C; hence contents may be under
pressure. Exercise caution when opening drum. If containers have been stored in
direct sunlight or heated above the boiling point of the solvent, the drum should be
cooled to below the boiling point prior to opening.

Storage & Transport:
Recommended drum-opening procedure; To open drum follow these procedures to
avoid loss and contamination of the product 1) Tear off protective cap over large
drum opening. (2) Carefully remove the plug from the centre of the large plug. Do not
puncture the inner seal. (3) Insert convenient length nipple fitted with a dose valve. As
nipple is inserted, the inner seal is broken and drum is ready to unload through valve.
Keep container dosed when not in use. Do NOT store in open, unlabelled, or
mislabelled containers. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area of low fire risk. Protect
container and its fittings from physical damage. Storage in subsurface locations
should be avoided. Close valve tightly and replace bung after use and when empty. If
drum temperature exceeds boiling point, cool the drum before opening. High dose-
level warning signs are recommended for areas of principal exposure. Provide
eyewash stations and quick-drench shower facilities at convenient locations.
Make sure the material does not come into contact with products listed under
鈥淢aterials to avoid鈥? below.
Spills and disposals:
In event of a major spill, prevent spillage from entering drains or watercourses. Wear
full protective clothing including facemask, face shield and gauntlets. Stop leak if safe
to do so, and contain spill. Absorb onto vermiculite or other absorbent material.
