Chronic exposure:
IJnder somecircumstances
methemoglobinemia
occursin individuals when the nihate is convertedby bacteriain the stomach
to nitrite.

Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions :
Personswith pre-existingskin disordersor eye problemsor impaired liver, kidney or respiratoryfunction may be more
susceptibleto the effects ofthe substance.

B. First Aid.
fnhalation:
Remove to fresh air. Get medical aftentionfor any breathingdifficulty.

Ingestion:
If swallowed, induce vomiting immediatelyby giving fwo glasses water, and sticking finger down the throat. Never give

Remove any contaminatedclothing. Wash skin with soapor mild detergentand water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical
attention if initation developsor persists.

Eye Exposure:
Wash eyeswith plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting Iower and upper eyelids occasionally.Get medical attention
immediately.

C. Toxicity Data (RTECS,1982)
Oral rat LD50: 3250 mC/kC.

SECTION VI - Occupational Control Measures

Airborne Exposure Limits:
-ACGIH Threshold Limit Value (TLV): soluble iron salts.
I mg(Fe)/m3(TWA)
2 mg (Fe)/m'(STEL)

Ventilated System:
In generala local exhaustsystem is recommended keep employeeexposiuesbelow the airborne exposurelimits. Local
to
gxhaustventilation is generally prefened because can control the emissionsofthe contaminantat iti source, preventing
it
dispersion of it into the generalwork area.Pleaserefer to the ACGIH document "Industrial Ventilation. a manual of
RecommendedPractices",most recent edition for details.

Personal Respirators: (NIOSH approved)
If the TLV is exceeded, dusVmistrespiratorwith chemical gogglesmay be wom, in general,up to l0 minutes the TLV.
a
Consult respirator supplier for limitations. Altematively, a supplied air full facepiecerespirator or airlined hood may be worn.

Skin Protective:
Wear protective gloves and clean body-covering clothing.

IJse chemical safety goggles. Contact lensesshould not be worn when working with this material. Maintain eye wash
fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.

Keep in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, ventilated areaaway from sourcesof heat or ignition. protect against
physical damage.
