ACUTE EFFECTS
SWALLOWED: Corrosive. Swallowing may cause severe burns of mouth, throat and stomach. May
cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea and vomiting and soreness of the throat.
EYE: Corrosive to eyes. Can cause burns that may result in serious damage to eyes.
SKIN: Corrosive to skin. Contact with skin may cause irritation or burns.
INHALED: Severe irritant. Dust may cause irritation to damage of the respiratory tract. Symptoms
may include Coughing and breathing difficulty, sneezing, sore throat or runny nose..
CHRONIC EFFECTS

FIRST AID
SWALLOWED: If conscious, immediately rinse mouth with water and give water to drink. DO NOT
induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical assistance. Do not give liquids to an unconscious person.
EYE: Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids to be held
open. Seek medical assistance.
SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected area with large amount of soap and water. If
irritation develops seek immediate medical assistance.
INHALED: Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing
and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm.
Keep at rest until fully recovered. If breathing laboured ensure airways are clear and administer
oxygen. If breathing has stopped apply artificial respiration at once. Seek immediate medical
assistance.

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Avoid skin and eye contact and inhalation of dust. Wear protective overalls to prevent skin exposure,
safety glasses or goggles and chemical resistant rubber gloves and rubber boots. Respiratory
protection is required if airborne concentration is high or unknown. Use an approved dust/mist
respirator meeting the requirements of AS1715 and AS1716. Always wash hands before smoking,
eating, drinking or using the toilet.

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT

SPILLS
Wear proper protective equipment. Ventilate area. Respiratory protection is required in dusty
environment. Sweep up spill but avoid generating dust. With a clean shovel, transfer spilled material
into clean-labelled containers for disposal.
DISPOSAL
Dispose at a licensed waste processing plant. Dispose in accordance with federal, state or local
regulations.
