4. FIRST AID MEASURES
If poisoning occurs, immediately contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre
(telephone 13 11 26), and follow the advice given. Show this Material Safety Data Sheet
to a doctor.
Inhalation: Remove person to fresh air. If poisoned through lungs, give atropine
tablets as above. Artificial respiration may be required. Seek
medical advice.
Skin contact: If poisoned by skin absorption, remove any contaminated clothing,
wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Give atropine tablets as
above. Seek medical advice. Launder contaminated clothing
before re-use.
Eye contact: Immediately rinse eyes thoroughly, including under eyelids, with
running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical
advice.
Ingestion: Seek immediate medical advice. If swallowed, give one atropine
tablet every 5 minutes until dryness of the mouth occurs. Get to a
doctor or hospital quickly. Do not give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Wash out mouth with water. Do not induce
vomiting. Keep patient at rest and seek medical advice as above.
First Aid Facilities: Obtain an emergency supply of atropine tablets 0.6 mg.
Symptoms: Like other carbamate insecticides, methomyl is a reversible
cholinesterase inhibitor. Symptoms typical of cholinesterase
inhibition (for all routes of entry) include nausea, diarrhoea,
abdominal cramps, muscle weakness, dizziness, pinpoint pupils,
chest discomfort, loss of reflexes, blurred vision, headache,
sweating, decreased pulse, mental confusion and tremors.
Medical Methomyl is a carbamate insecticide, which is a reversible
attention: cholinesterase inhibitor. The main health effect from repeated
exposure would be toxic symptoms of cholinesterase inhibition
described above. Atropine, preferably by injection, is an antidote.
Do not use pralidoxime.

7. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Wear suitable protective clothing and boots. Prevent spill from entering drains, sewers
or any body of water. Scoop or shovel into sealable containers for disposal in
accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. Wash contaminated
surface with water.
8. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handling: Keep out of reach of children and animals. Avoid contact with skin
and eyes. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Use only in a well-
ventilated area.
Storage: Store product in the closed, original container in a cool, well-
ventilated area away from moisture and direct sunlight.
9. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure No exposure standard has been assigned by the National
standards: Occupational Health and Safety Commission (Worksafe Australia).
ACGIH TLV TWA for methomyl is 2.5 mg/m鲁.
Production workers handling this product should be monitored for
cholinesterase levels. A baseline level should be established prior to
any potential exposure.
Engineering Control process conditions to avoid contact. Use local exhaust
controls: ventilation during manufacture and use.
Personal Eyes: Avoid contact with the eyes. Wear safety goggles.
Protective Clothing: Wear suitable protective clothing such as cotton
Equipment: overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and a
washable hat. Protective clothing must be stored
separately from private clothing.
Gloves: Avoid contact with the skin. Wear PVC or nitrile
gloves.
Respiratory: Production workers should wear a disposable
respirator in enclosed areas.
Other: Do not eat, drink or smoke until after washing. Wash
thoroughly after handling. After each day鈥檚 use, wash
gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.

Inhalation: Toxic by inhalation. However, inhalation is unlikely as the active
ingredient, methomyl, is contained in a solid bait.
Skin contact: Low toxicity by skin contact. In animal tests methomyl was not a
skin sensitiser.
Eye contact: Contact with the eyes will cause tears and blurred vision.
Ingestion: Whilst this product has a low LD50 listed, it is classified as toxic if
swallowed.

Triple rinse or preferably pressure rinse containers before disposal. Dispose of rinsings in
a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose, clear of waterways,
desirable vegetation and tree roots. Break, crush, or puncture and bury empty
containers in a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the containers
below 500 mm in a disposal pit. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.
