Melt Point: Binder softens. Fiber melts over 2300 C.
SECTION 4 FLAMABILITY
Flash point does not apply to these fibrous materials.
Burning characteristics: Retarded burn rate
Extinguishing media: Water spray, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide
Fire fighting procedures: Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and protective
clothing.
SECTION 5 REACTIVITY DATA AND PHYSICAL HAZARDS
These materials are stable during normal use.
Conditions to avoid: Inhalation of fumes if incinerated. Any mechanical action that would pulverize
product to create a hazardous dust.
Hazardous decomposition products: Oxides of carbon, hydrogen chloride, small quantities of
aliphatic and aromatic h drocarbons, antimon oxide and/or antimon ox chloride.
SECTION 6 HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effect of Exposure: No known chronic or acute effects when handling or using media.
Antimony trioxide is used as a flame retardant in the binder of this material. It is totally immobilized
and encapsulated within the plastic binder and poses little or no risk under normal use. The pure
product (99%), a powder, if inhaled over long periods of time, may cause benign pneumoconiosis.
Long-term inhalation studies indicate antimon oxide causes mali nant lun tumors in laborator rats.
