**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Contact with water liberates extremely flammable gases. Causes
burns.Corrosive.Water-reactive.Hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the
air).

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye burns. May cause irreversible eye injury.
Skin:
Contact with skin causes irritation and possible burns, especially
if the skin is wet or moist.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. Causes cough, sore throat,
chest pain, and lightheadedness.
Inhalation:
Effects may be delayed. May cause irritation of the respiratory
tract with burning pain in the nose and throat, coughing, wheezing,
shortness of breath and pulmonary edema. Causes chemical burns to
the respiratory tract. May cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting,
and inflammation of the gums and mouth. May cause lung damage.
Chronic:
May cause liver and kidney damage. May cause anemia and other blood
cell abnormalities. May cause digestive tract and cardiac
disturbances.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid
immediately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing
and shoes.
Ingestion:
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical
aid immediately. Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert,
rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician:

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Reacts violently with water giving off flammable
gas which may explode.
Extinguishing Media:
Do NOT use halogenated agents. Use approved class D extinguishing
agents or smother with dry sand, clay, or sodium bicarbonate. Do NOT
use water, carbon dioxide, or foam.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal
container. Do not flush into a sewer. Scoop up with a nonsparking
tool, then place into a suitable container for disposal.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Do not allow water to get into the container because of violent
reaction. Contents may develop pressure upon prolonged storage. Do
not breathe dust, vapor, mist, or gas. Do not get in eyes, on skin,
or on clothing. Use only in a chemical fume hood.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place. Do not store in direct sunlight. Store
in a tightly closed container. Water free area.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower.
Exposure Limits
