**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Irritating to respiratory system and skin. Limited evidence of a
carcinogenic effect. Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term
adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause eye irritation.
Skin:
Causes skin irritation. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and
diarrhea. May cause methemoglobinemia, cyanosis (bluish discoloration
of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), convulsions, and
death. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by dizziness, drowsiness,
headache, shortness of breath, cyanosis (bluish discoloration of
skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), rapid heart rate and
chocolate-brown colored blood. May be harmful if swallowed.
Inhalation:
Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause methemoglobinemia,
cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation
of the blood), convulsions, tachycardia, dyspnea (labored
breathing), and death. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by
dizziness, drowsiness, headache, shortness of breath, cyanosis
(bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the
blood), rapid heart rate and chocolate-brown blood. May be harmful
if inhaled.
Chronic:
Effects may be delayed.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid
immediately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of water for at
least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical
aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Combustible liquid and vapor.
Extinguishing Media:
Water or foam may cause frothing. Water may be ineffective. Use
water fog, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or regular foam.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth),
then place in suitable container. Provide ventilation. A vapor
suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors. Approach spill from
upwind. Control runoff and isolate discharged material for proper
disposal.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact
with eyes, skin, and clothing. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.
Storage:
Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed
container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from
incompatible substances. Separate from acids, oxidizing materials,
and hypochlorite mixtures.
