I PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION___________________________________________________

PRODUCT NAME: CYCLOHEXANONE CAS No.: 108-94-1
COMMON NAMES/SYNONYMS: Anone, Hytrol, Cyclohexyl Ketone, Pimelic Ketone, Nadone,
Ketohexamethylene
FORMULA: C6-H10-O MOL WT.: 98.16

II HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS___________________________________________________

Ingredient Name CAS No Content OSHA PEL ACGIH TLV Hazard

Cyclohexanone 108-94-1 100% 25 ppm (skin) 25 ppm (skin) Health/Fire

III_ HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION______________________________________________

PRIMARY ROUTE OF ENTRY: Inhalation, ingestion, skin and eye contact.

ACUTE EFFECTS OF EXPOSURE:
EYE CONTACT: May cause severe irritation experienced as stinging, tearing, redness
and swelling of eyes. Can injure eye tissue.
SKIN CONTACT: May cause irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact may dry the skin
experienced as redness, burning and cracking of skin. Passage through the skin
is possible, and may add to toxic effects from breathing and swallowing.
INGESTION: Swallowing small amounts during normal handling is not likely to cause
harmful effects. Swallowing large amounts may be harmful. It can get into the
lungs during swallowing or vomiting. This results in lung inflammation and
other lung injury.
INHALATION: Inhalation may be harmful. Inhalation of high concentration may
experience central nervous system depression, respiratory depression and
respiratory failure.

CHRONIC EFFECTS OF EXPOSURE: Repeated exposure may cause chronic eye irritation.
CYH 2/4

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Because of its defatting
properties, pre-existing skin disorders may be aggravated. Inhalation may aggravate
asthma and inflammatory or fibrotic pulmonary disease.

IV FIRST AID MEASURES:________________________________________________________

EYE CONTACT: Promptly wash eyes with lots of water while lifting the eyelids. Continue to
rinse for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention if irritation persists.
SKIN CONTACT: Promptly wash contaminated skin with soap or mild detergent and water.
INGESTION: If conscious, immediately give 2 glasses of water. Do not induce vomiting. Get
immediate medical attention. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious or
convulsing person.
INHALATION: Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Perform artificial respiration if
breathing has stopped. When breathing is difficult, properly trained personnel may assist
affected person by administering oxygen.

V TOXICOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION__________________________

ORAL: RAT LD50 = 1620 mg/kg
CARCINOGENICITY: None known.

VI FIRE AND EXPLOSION INFORMATION

Flash point: deg. F: 111F (44C) Flammable Limits in Air, %
Method used: CC Lower: 1.1 Upper: 8.1
Auto-ignition temp: 788 F

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water spray, fog or mist, alcohol foam, carbon dioxide, dry
chemicals, sand, etc. Do not use water.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Firefighter should wear self-contained breathing
apparatus and full protective clothing. Use water spray to cool nearby containers and
structures exposed to fire.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: May travel considerable distance to source of
ignition and flash back. Solvent vapors may form explosive mixture with air. Heat may
cause container to explode.
HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: May liberate carbon monoxide and carbon
dioxide.

VII SPILL AND PRECAUTION FOR HANDLING AND USE_____________________________

SPILL CLEANUP METHODS: Extinguish all ignition sources and ensure that all handling
equipment is electrically grounded. For small spill or drips, mop or wipe up and dispose
of in DOT-approved waste container. For large spill, contain by diking with soil or other
non-combustible absorbent materials and then pump into DOT-approved waste
containers; or absorb with non-combustible sorbent materials, place residue in DOT-
approved waste containers. Keep out of sewers, storm drains, surface water and soil.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS: Keep away from heat, sparks and flames. Store in a cool, dry, well-
ventilated place away from incompatible materials. Vent container frequently, and more
often in warm weather, to relieve pressure. Electrically ground all equipment when
handling this product and use only non-sparking tools. Keep container tightly closed
when not in use. Do not use pressure to empty container. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing.
CYH 3/4

VIII EXPOSURE CONTROL AND PERSONAL PROTECTION___________________________

VENTILATION: Local mechanical exhaust ventilation capable of maintaining emission at the
point of use below the PEL.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: If use conditions generate vapors or mists, wear a NIOSH-
approved respirator appropriate for those emission levels. Appropriate respirators may be
a full face piece or a half mask air-purifying cartridge respirator equipped for organic
vapors/mists, a self-contained breathing apparatus in the pressure demand mode, or a
supplied air respirator.
EYE PROTECTION: Chemical goggles unless a respirator is also worn. It is generally recognized
that contact lenses may contribute to the severity of an eye injury.
OTHER PROTECTION: Long-sleeve shirt, rubber gloves and rubber apron.

IX PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES_______________________________________
