Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest
until fully recovered. Obtain medical assistance.

Ingestion Rinse mouth thoroughly with water.
Give a glass of water.
If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting; seek medical advice immediately and show
this container or label or contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26
(Aust). Make every effort to prevent vomit from entering the lungs by careful
placement of the patient.
The above first aid instructions are mandated by the Commonwealth Department
of Health and Aged Care via the National Drugs and Poisons Schedule. These
instructions are suitable for ingestion of dipping solution. The concentrate
is highly toxic. The ingestion of even small amounts (less than 1 ml) may be
life threatening. Rapid medical attention is critical.
If medical assistance is more than 30 minutes away, the induction of vomiting
should be CONSIDERED, preferably based on MEDICAL ADVICE if a physician can be
contacted by phone. All care must be taken to prevent vomit from being
inhaled. Do not give anything by mouth to a semi-conscious or unconscious
person.
Skin If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly
with water.
For skin burns, immediately flood skin with copious amounts of water.
Cover with a clean, dry dressing.
Seek medical advice, but only after the exposed skin has been thoroughly
washed.
Eye If in eyes, hold eyelids open and wash with copious amounts of water for at
least 15 minutes.
Seek medical advice immediately.
First Aid Facilities If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre on 13 11
26 (Australia).
Advice to Doctor Ingestion of an organic mercury compound, even at low dosage, is life
threatening and management is difficult. Basic poisoning management steps
are:
Limit gastrointestinal absorption. If product has been ingested in the past
few hours, the stomach must be evacuated by intubation and lavage, taking all
precautions to protect the respiratory tract. Repeated administration of
activated charcoal may be beneficial.
Administer a chelating agent. Succimer or D-Penicillamine (D-Penamine) may be
used.
NB. Dimercaprol (BAL) is contraindicated and EDTA is ineffective. (2)
Consider use of extracorporeal haemodialysis and haemoperfusion, although the
unmodified organic mercurials are not efficiently dialyzable across most
membranes, when used in combination with chelating agents, dialysis may be of
some use in removing organic mercury from the blood. Very little can be done
to mitigate the neurological damage caused by organic mercurials.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Suitable Water fog, foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical.
Extinguishing Media
Speical Protective Fire fighters to wear self-contained breathing apparatus if risk of exposure
to products of decomposition.
Equipment for fire
fighters
Specific Hazards Decomposes on heating emitting toxic fumes of mercury.
Hazchem Code 2X

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Spills & Disposal Contain spill and absorb with clay, sand, soil or proprietary absorbent (such
as vermiculite).
Collect in sealed open top containers for disposal.
Keep upwind.
If possible, ring 1800 033 498 for specialist advice.
Personal Protection For appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), refer Section 8.

Chronic Effects Repeated minor exposure may have a cumulative poisoning effect. Poisoning by
alkoxyalkyl mercury compounds usually begins with loss of appetite, flatulence
and diarrhoea. The patient may complain of weight loss, exhaustion and
headache. Albuminuria is a common finding and may be accompanied by
generalised edema. Signs of injury of the central nervous system include
numbness of the fingers and toes and some degree of ataxia. (1)
Acute Toxicity - Oral LD50 (rat) (15% solution) 22-44 mg/kg
LD50 (rat) 30 mg/kg for methoxy ethyl mercuric chloride
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Bioaccumulative Risk of bioaccumulation in aquatic species is high.
Potential
Environ. Protection Marine pollutant.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Product Disposal Dispose of the discarded dip and spray solutions by combining with sand/soil
mixture and bury under 500mm of soil away from water sources and homes.
Container Disposal Do not use this container for any other purpose.
Triple rinse containers, add rinsate to the spray tank, then offer the
container for recycling/reconditioning, or puncture top, sides and bottom and
dispose of in landfill in accordance with local regulations.
Empty containers and product should not be burnt.
