8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
National Exposure The manufacturer of the solvent has recommended an occupational exposure limit
of 100 mg/m3; 17ppm TWA, as total hydrocarbon.
Standards
NOHSC has set the following exposure standard for N-methyl pyrrolidone : TLV
(TWA) 103 mg/m3, STEL 309. SK
'SK' notice - absorption through the skin may be a significant source of
exposure. The exposure standard is invalidated if such contact should occur.
Engineering Handle in well ventilated areas, generally natural ventilation is adequate.
Controls
Personal Protective When opening the container, preparing spray and using the prepared spray wear
cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist and a washable hat,
Equipment
elbow-length PVC, nitrile or neoprene gloves, goggles and disposable fume
mask.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Toxicology No harmful effects are expected if the precautions on the label and this MSDS
are followed.
Information
Inhalation The components of the product are of low volatility and no adverse effects are
expected from handling the concentrate.
However, care should be taken to avoid the inhalation of excessive amounts of
spray mist during field spraying, respiratory irritation may occur.
Breathing vapour can result in headaches, dizziness and possible nausea.
Ingestion Amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling procedures and use are not
expected to cause injury.
If aspirated into the lung, e.g. from vomiting, the presence of solvent may
result in chemical pneumonitis or other lung damage.
Skin Prolonged contact with the concentrate may cause irritation.
Prolonged contact with the concentrate can cause defatting of the skin and may
result in dermatitis.
Eye The concentrate may cause irritation of the eyes.
Reproductive Data indicates no reproductive effects.
Data indicates no teratogenic effects.
Toxicity
Mutagenicity Data indicates no mutagenic effects.
Carcinogenicity An incidence of liver tumours was noted in long-term studies with
propiconazole in rodents.
As the mechanism involved is not relevant to humans, and the dose levels were
very high, the potential carcinogenic risk to humans in considered negligible.
Acute Toxicity - Oral LD50 (rat) 1517 mg/kg for propiconazole
Acute Toxicity - LD50 (rat) >4000 mg/kg for propiconazole
Dermal
Acute Toxicity - LC50 (rat) (4hr) 9.46 mg/l for propiconazole
Inhalation
Eye Irritation Mild eye irritant.
Skin Irritation Mild skin irritant.
Other Information The Australian Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for propiconazole for a human is
0.04 mg/kg/day, set for the public for daily, lifetime exposure. This is based
on the NOEL of 4 mg/kg/day, the level determined to show no effects during
long term exposure for the most sensitive indicators and the most sensitive
species. (Ref: Comm. Dept. of Health and Ageing, 'ADI List', TGA, September

container for recycling/reconditioning, or puncture top, sides and bottom and
dispose of in landfill in accordance with local regulations.
drumMUSTER is the national program for the collection and recycling of empty,
cleaned, non returnable crop production and on-farm animal health chemical
containers. If the label on your container carries the drumMuster symbol,
triple rinse the container, ring your local Council, and offer the container
for collection in the program.
If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or
designated collection point.
If not recycling, puncture or shred and bury containers in local authority
