Composition Contains cross-linked polyacrylamide beads in a buffered solution
containing sodium citrate and sodium ch loride, w ith sodium azide as a
preservative.
De scrip tion of Conte nts Sodium azide (CAS# 2 662 8-22-8) is the only hazard ous/c arcino genic
ingredient in this mixture, and it is present in a very low concentration
(0.02% ) as an antim icrobia l prese rvative. Accordin g to the OS HA Haz ard
Comm unications Standard (CFR 1910.1200), if a mixture contains less than
1% of a hazardous chemical or 0.1% of a carcinogen, the mixture shall not
be co nside red hazard ous. H ow eve r, precaution s for handling potentially
dan gerous rea gents sh ould be practice d w hen using this product.
To aid in determining handling procedures, we offer the following additional information regarding sodium
azide:
Hazard identification Sodium azide is highly toxic . Contact w ith acids libera tes ve ry toxic gas.
Readily absorbed through the skin. May react with lead and copper
plum bing to form highly explosive me tal azides.
First aid measures IF IN DO UB T SE EK ME DICA L ADV ICE. In ca se of con tact:
Eyes and skin - irrigate with ple nty of w ater for at least 15 m inutes.
Ingestion - wash mouth with water (provided victim is conscious), drink
plenty of water. OBTAIN MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Inhalation - move to a we ll ve ntilated area an d cle ar no se and th roat.
Fire fighting measures Sodium azide emits toxic fum es unde r fire conditions.
Explosion hazards Sod ium azid e reacts with m any hea vy me tals, such as lead a nd copper, to
form exp losive me tal azides. Use larg e vo lum es of w ater to flush this
product through any plum bing con taining these heav y m etals.
