**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Possible risks of irreversible effects.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause mild eye irritation. Causes redness and pain.
Skin:
May cause mild skin irritation.
Ingestion:
May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and
diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression.
Inhalation:
Material has a low vapor pressure, so exposure to vapor is not
likely. Exposure to dioctyl phthalate occurs from spray or mist,
rather than from the vapor, unless heat is applied. If the product
is heated, misted or sprayed, it may cause irritation of the
respiratory tract if inhaled.
Chronic:
DEHP toxicity appears to be a high-dose phenomenon readily
demonstrable in some but not all rodent species and strains. Liver
toxicity, so characteristic of rodent responses to DEHP, appears to
be irrelevant to humans. The carcinogenic response of DEHP has been
demonstrated only in one strain of rat and mouse and does not appear
to be a feature of toxicity in higher order mammals, especially
primates. Reproductive and developmental toxicity, likewise appears
to be limited to high-dose effects seen in rodent testing. The
relevance to humans of this testing has not been established.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for
at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid.
Skin:
In case of contact, flush skin with plenty of water. Remove
contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation
develops and persists. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by
medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious
person. Get medical aid.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial
respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively.

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases
may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Will burn
if involved in a fire. Vapors may be heavier than air. They can
spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas. Runoff
from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
Extinguishing Media:
Water or foam may cause frothing. Use water spray to cool
fire-exposed containers. Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon
dioxide, or chemical foam.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth),
then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and
ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately,
observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Provide
ventilation.

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and
clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Use only with adequate
ventilation. Avoid breathing vapor or mist.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.

Engineering Controls:
Use adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne
concentrations below the permissible exposure limits.
Personal Protective Equipment

Eyes:
Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical
safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face
protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European
Standard EN166.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin
exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin
exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR
1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a
NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator
when necessary.
