**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Reacts violently with water. Toxic by inhalation, in contact with
skin and if swallowed. Causes burns. Limited evidence of a
carcinogenic effect.Moisture sensitive.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye burns. Lachrymator (substance which increases the flow
of tears). May cause visual impairment.
Skin:
Contact with liquid is corrosive and causes severe burns and
ulceration. Causes redness and pain. Toxic in contact with skin.
Ingestion:
Poison by ingestion. Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea,
vomiting and diarrhea. Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. May cause
central nervous system depression, characterized by excitement,
followed by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Advanced
stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma and possible death
due to respiratory failure.
Inhalation:
Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system
effects characterized by nausea, headache, dizziness, unconsciousness
and coma. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. May cause
narcotic effects in high concentration. Inhalation may be fatal as a
result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx and bronchi,
chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. Toxic if inhaled. Vapors
may cause dizziness or suffocation. May cause thryoid effects. May
cause blood changes. Overexposure may cause an increase in
carboxyhemoglobin levels in the blood.
Chronic:
Possible cancer hazard based on tests with laboratory animals.
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. May cause
reproductive and fetal effects. Laboratory experiments have resulted
in mutagenic effects. Chronic exposure may cause lung, liver, and
pancreatic tumors. Chronic exposure may cause kidney damage.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid
immediately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing
and shoes. If water-reactive products are embedded in the skin, no
water should be applied. The embedded products should be covered
with a light oil.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4
cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately. Wash mouth out with
water.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do NOT use mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation. If breathing has ceased apply artificial respiration
using oxygen and a suitable mechanical device such as a bag and a
mask.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively.

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. Water Reactive. Material will react with water and
may release a flammable and/or toxic gas. Use water spray to keep
fire-exposed containers cool. Vapors mixed with air in proper
proportion will propagate a flame. Vapors may be heavier than air.
They can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined
areas. Containers may explode when heated. Will form explosive
mixtures in atmospheres having high oxygen contents.
Extinguishing Media:
Do NOT use water directly on fire. Use water spray to cool
fire-exposed containers. Use foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth),
then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and
ditches which lead to waterways. Remove all sources of ignition. Use
a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Do not allow water to get into the container because of violent
reaction. Loosen closure cautiously before opening. Do not get in
eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Take precautionary measures against
static discharges. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Use only
with adequate ventilation.
Storage:
Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Do not store in direct
sunlight. Store in a tightly closed container. Keep from contact with
oxidizing materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away
from incompatible substances. Storage under a nitrogen blanket has
been recommended. Store below 40C.

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate
