========================================================================
FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA
========================================================================

Flammable Properties
Flash Point : 58掳C (136掳F)
Method : TCC
Flammable limits in Air, % by Volume
LEL : 0.7 % @ 100掳C (212掳F)
UEL : 4.9 % @ 100掳C (212掳F)
Autodecomposition : 290掳C (554掳F)
Autoignition : 250掳C (482掳F)
Actual Autoignition Temperature (AIT) can be affected by the concentration of vapors and oxygen,
vapor/air contact time, pressure, volume, catalytic impurities, etc. Process conditions should be analyzed
to determine if the AIT's may be higher or lower.

Fire and Explosion Hazards:
OSHA Class II Combustible Liquid. "DECALIN" vapors are heavier than air and can travel to source of
ignition. The product can form explosive peroxides which may be concentrated by evaporation or
distillation. Follow appropriate National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes.

Extinguishing Media
Small Fires: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide (CO2).
Large Fires: Water spray, fog, or foam.

Fire Fighting Instructions
Evacuate personnel to a safe area. Cool tank/container with water spray. Keep personnel removed and
upwind of smoke and fumes. If smoke and fumes cannot be avoided, wear full protective clothing with
hood and NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection. Run-off from fire control may cause pollution.

========================================================================
REACTIVITY DATA
========================================================================

Chemical Stability :
Stable at normal temperatures and conditions of storage. Potentially explosive peroxides can form on
long-term storage in contact with air. Light and heat accelerate peroxide formation.

Incompatibility with Other Materials : Incompatible with oxidizing materials.
Decomposition : Will not occur at temperatures below 290掳C (555掳F).
Polymerization : Polymerization will not occur.

========================================================================
HEALTH HAZARD DATA
========================================================================

Potential Health Effects
Causes eye, skin, nose, and throat irritation. May cause liver and kidney damage.

Human Health Effects:
Irritation with discomfort, tearing, or blurring of vision; or skin irritation with discomfort or rash.
Significant skin permeation and systemic toxicity after contact appear unlikely. By inhalation, the effects
may include irritation of the upper respiratory passages with coughing and discomfort. The major hazard
following ingestion is aspiration (liquid entering the lungs during ingestion or vomiting) which may
result in chemical pneumonia. Symptoms include coughing, gasping, choking, shortness of breath, bluish
discoloration of the skin, rapid breathing and heart rate, and fever. Pulmonary edema, drowsiness,
confusion, coma, and seizures may occur in more serious cases. Symptoms may develop immediately or
may be delayed for as long as 24 hours after exposure, depending on how much chemical entered the
lungs. Individuals with preexisting diseases of the central or peripheral nervous systems, kidneys, or
lungs may have increased susceptibility to the toxicity of excessive exposures.

Carcinogenicity Information :
None of the components present in this material at concentrations equal to or greater than 0.1% are listed
by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH as a carcinogen.

FIRST AID MEASURES
========================================================================

Inhalation :
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give
oxygen. Call a physician.

Skin Contact :Flush skin with water after contact. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Eye Contact :
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.

Ingestion :
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Immediately give 2 glasses of water. Never give anything by
mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician.

Notes to Physicians :
Because of the danger of aspiration, emesis or gastric lavage should not be employed unless the risk is
justified by the presence of additional toxic substances. Activated charcoal may be given but should be
used with caution since it may induce vomiting. Bacterial pneumonia often occurs after aspiration but
antibiotics should be reserved until culture and sensitivity is determined. Activated charcoal mixture
may be beneficial. Suspend 50 g activated charcoal in 400 ml water and mix well. Administer 5 ml/kg,
or 350 ml for an average adult.

========================================================================
PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
========================================================================

Engineering Controls :
"DECALIN" should be handled in closed equipment whenever possible, and good ventilation should be
provided in storage and use areas.

Personal Protective Equipment
Eye/Face : Coverall chemical splash goggles. Safety glasses (side shields preferred).
Additional : Hard hat with brim.
Protective Gloves : Neoprene gloves.

If handling material above its flash point, wear flame-resistant work clothing. Also, if direct exposure is
likely, wear a chemical-proof suit with hood and NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection.

Exposure Guidelines
Exposure Limits :
Decalin* Solvent
PEL (OSHA) : None Established
TLV (ACGIH) : None Established

Handling (Personnel) :

The above information is believed to be accurate to the best of our knowledge.
No responsibilities or liabilities are assumed or implied by CITY U for their inaccuracies.
M.S.D.S. 0340
Avoid breathing vapors or mist. Avoid contact with eyes. Avoid contact with skin. Avoid contact with
clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage :
Store in a well ventilated place.
Keep container upright and tightly closed. Store away from heat, sparks, and flame. Do not store with
strong oxidizing materials.

========================================================================
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DATA
========================================================================

Accidental Release Measures :
Evacuate area and keep upwind of spill. Contain spill with sand or earth dam, soak up with sand or other
noncombustible absorbent and transfer to a covered metal container for disposal. Flush area with
detergent and water. Comply with Federal, State, and local regulations on reporting releases.
