NOTES
1
Constant agitation at all times.
ACANTO PRIMA is INCOMPATIBLE with THIOVIT JET and Terpal.
Before using any tank mixture, consult and comply with the recommendations of the partner
products. Each product should be added separately to the bulk of the water in the spray
tank and thoroughly mixed before adding the next chemical. Always use constant agitation
of the sprayer tank during mixing, transportation and application. Spray immediately.
When mixing always add to the sprayer tank 铿乺st.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within
this section must be carefully read in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

GENERAL INFORMATION
ACANTO PRIMA contains both an anilino pyrimidine and strobilurin fungicide. It has systemic,
translaminar, preventative properties and is vapour active for the control of a wide range of
diseases in all commercial varieties of winter and spring wheat and winter and spring barley.
Picoxystrobin and other strobilurin analogues inhibit fungal respiration. Their mode of
action is different from the action of other fungicidal groups and there is no known cross-
resistance to this mode of action in pathogens which have developed reduced sensitivity to
other fungicides. It is, therefore, ideal for alternation or mixture with fungicides with other
modes of action.
ACANTO PRIMA shows good crop safety, disease control and maintenance of green leaf area
which results in signi铿乧ant yield bene铿乼s.
ACANTO PRIMA is best used as a protectant treatment or in the earliest stages of disease
development.

Yellow Rust (Puccinia striiformis) 鈥? [Moderate]
Brown Rust (Puccinia recondita)
Eyespot (Tapesia yallundae, Tapesia acuformis) 鈥? [Moderate]
When used for the control of other diseases ACANTO PRIMA will also give moderate control
of wheat powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis).

CROPS AND GROWING CONDITIONS
ACANTO PRIMA can be used on all winter and spring crops of wheat and barley. Apply
ACANTO PRIMA under good growing conditions with adequate soil moisture. Avoid poor
growing conditions which may give less reliable results.
ACANTO PRIMA PRODUCT USE

FUNGICIDE

DOSE
Wheat
One application of 2.5 kg per hectare before third node detectable stage (GS33) and/or
1.5 kg per hectare before early milk stage (GS73).
Maximum total dose to not exceed 4 kg per hectare.
At the reduced rate of 1.5 kg per hectare, moderate control of leaf spot, leaf blotch, glume
blotch and brown rust will be obtained.
Barley
1.6 kg per hectare. With a maximum of 2 applications to be applied before ear emergence
just visible stage (GS51).

TIMING
Always inspect crops to assess disease development immediately before spraying. Best results
will be achieved from applications made as a protectant treatment or in the earliest stages of
disease development following a disease risk assessment or the use of appropriate decision
support systems.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Use ACANTO PRIMA as part of a disease management programme. Control of Septoria spp.,
Brown rust and Yellow rust in wheat may be improved by using ACANTO PRIMA with an
appropriate triazole mixture partner. This is also good practice for resistance management.
Treatment at the onset of disease development will ensure best results. Further applications
may be needed if disease attack is prolonged.

APPLICATION
MIXING AND SPRAYING
Ensure that the sprayer is clean and correctly set to give an even application at the required
volume.
Dry Mixing 鈥? Sprayers with induction hoppers
Fill sprayer to 15% of tank capacity with water and start agitation. Pour ACANTO PRIMA
into the induction hopper and open valve in bottom of hopper to suck the granules into
the circulating spray mix. Continue adding ACANTO PRIMA until loading is complete. Wash
down any granules on the hopper wall and close valve. Rinse packs in the normal manner.
Note for old sprayers with indirect venturi induction hoppers
In the unlikely event of problems occurring during dry induction of the granules (blocked
venturi), open the rinse ring and add water to the hopper. As soon as product induction
continues, carry on adding product until the required amount is reached.
Sprayers without induction hoppers
Fill sprayer with a minimum of 15 cm of water in the bottom and agitate vigorously. Pour
ACANTO PRIMA through the sprayer lid, triple rinse containers into the sprayer and then add
the remainder of water.
Agitate the mixture thoroughly before use and continue agitation until spraying is completed.
Wash out containers thoroughly, preferably using an integrated pressure rinsing device, or
manually rinse 3 times. Add washings to the sprayer at the time of 铿乴ling. Complete 铿乴ling to
the required volume and continue to agitate throughout the spraying operation.
Do not leave the spray liquid in the sprayer for long periods (such as during meal breaks or
overnight).
PRODUCT USE ACANTO PRIMA

FUNGICIDE

VOLUME OF WATER AND SPRAYING
Apply in at least 200 litres of water per hectare using a MEDIUM quality spray (BCPC) at a
pressure of at least 2 bar. Apply through conventional crop spraying equipment. In dense
crops, increase the water volume to 250-300 litres per hectare to improve coverage.

AFTER SPRAYING
Thoroughly wash out sprayer according to manufacturer鈥檚 guidelines and dispose of
washings and clean containers according to DEFRA Code of Practice and local water
authority guidelines.

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT
ACANTO PRIMA contains picoxystrobin, a member of the QoI cross resistance group.
ACANTO PRIMA should always be used preventatively or as early as possible in the disease
cycle. It should not be used as a sole method of disease control where disease is already
established.
Use ACANTO PRIMA as part of an IPM strategy incorporating other methods of control,
including where appropriate other fungicides with a different mode of action. You must not
apply more than 2 sprays of QoI containing products to any cereal crop.
In wheat, ACANTO PRIMA must always be used in mixture with another product containing
an active ingredient from a different cross resistance group that is recommended for control
of the same target disease applied at a rate that will give robust control. Where strains of
fungi resistant to QoI鈥檚 occur, ACANTO PRIMA is likely to be ineffective and should not be
used.
Strains of wheat and barley powdery mildew resistant to QoI鈥檚 are common in the UK.
Moderate control of wheat powdery mildew can only be relied upon from the cyprodinil
component. Where speci铿乧 control of wheat mildew is required this should be achieved
through a programme of measures, including products with recommendations for control of
mildew that contain different active substances used in mixture or sequence.
Disease control may be reduced if strains of pathogens less sensitive to picoxystrobin develop.
To minimise the risk of further resistance development, users should follow the FRAG-UK
recommendations.
This product is to be used only in accordance with the recommendations and instructions
given on the labels provided with this pack.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Precautions marked * are a legal requirement.
(a) Operator protection
* Engineering controls of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable
in addition to the following personal protective equipment:

GLOVES when handling contaminated surfaces.
* WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS) during application.
* However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH
assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection.
