Chemical Safety
0579 THIOACETAMIDE
IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance Routes of exposure
COLOURLESS CRYSTALS, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its
aerosol and by ingestion.
Chemical dangers
Inhalation risk
The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic fumes
(nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides). Evaporation at 20/C is negligible; a harmful concentration of
airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on dust
Occupational exposure limits forming.
TLV not established.
Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
The substance may have effects on the liver, resulting in tissue
lesions. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Melting point: 113-116/C Flash point: see Notes
Solubility in water: good Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: -0.46/-0.36
ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
NOTES
The substance is combustible but no flash point is available in literature.
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See section EU classification.
