**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Irritating to eyes.Air sensitive.Cancer suspect agent.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes mild eye irritation.
Skin:
May cause skin irritation. May cause allergic contact dermatitis.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation with
nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause kidney damage. Effects may
be cumulative. Human fatalities have been reported from acute
poisoning.
Inhalation:
May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause pulmonary fibrosis
and permanent damage. Systemic intoxication is cumulative and has
been fatal.
Chronic:
Repeated exposure may cause sensitization dermatitis. Cobalt
compounds may cause cancer based upon animal studies.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids.
Skin:
Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while
removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and
drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately.
Notes to Physician:

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases
may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use
extinguishing media appropriate to the surrounding fire. Substance is
noncombustible.
Extinguishing Media:
Substance is noncombustible; use agent most appropriate to
extinguish surrounding fire.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal
container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to
waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the
Protective Equipment section. Sweep up, then place into a suitable
container for disposal. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Place
under an inert atmosphere.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash hands before eating. Use only
in a well-ventilated area. Minimize dust generation and accumulation.
Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly
closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Handle under an inert
atmosphere. Store protected from air. Use only in a chemical fume
hood. Wash clothing before reuse.
Storage:
Keep from contact with oxidizing materials. Store in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep
containers tightly closed. Do not expose to air. Store under an inert
atmosphere.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or
local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below the
permissible exposure limits.
