**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Reacts violently with water. Causes burns.Corrosive.Water-reactive.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes severe eye burns. Lachrymator (substance which increases
the flow of tears). Causes redness and pain.
Skin:
Contact with liquid is corrosive and causes severe burns and
ulceration. Causes redness and pain.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. May cause perforation of the
digestive tract.
Inhalation:
Effects may be delayed. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory
tract. May cause lung damage. Inhalation may be fatal as a result of
spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx and bronchi, chemical
pneumonitis and pulmonary edema.
Chronic:
No information found.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Get medical aid immediately. Do NOT allow victim to rub eyes or keep
eyes closed. Extensive irrigation with water is required (at least 30
minutes).
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing
and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. SPEEDY ACTION IS CRITICAL!
Destroy contaminated shoes.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4
cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh
air immediately. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do NOT use
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If breathing has ceased apply
artificial respiration using oxygen and a suitable mechanical device
such as a bag and a mask.
Notes to Physician:

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
Evacuate area and fight fire from a safe distance. As in any fire,
wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand,
MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Use
water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Containers may
explode in the heat of a fire. Will react with water to form toxic
and corrosive fumes. May react exothermically with water, causing
liberation of heat and possible spattering of material. Vapors may
be heavier than air. They can spread along the ground and collect in
low or confined areas. Contact with metals may evolve flammable
hydrogen gas.
Extinguishing Media:
Do NOT use water directly on fire. If water is the only media
available, use in flooding amounts. Do NOT get water inside
containers. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until
well after fire is out. For small fires, use dry chemical or carbon
dioxide.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Do not flush into a sewer. Clean up spills immediately, observing
precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Absorb spill using
an absorbent, non-combustible material such as earth, sand, or
vermiculite. Do not use combustible materials such as sawdust.
Isolate area and deny entry. Provide ventilation. Do not expose
spill to water.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Do not allow water
to get into the container because of violent reaction. Do not get in
eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not ingest or inhale. Wash clothing
before reuse. Keep from contact with clothing and other combustible
materials. Discard contaminated shoes.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible
substances. Keep away from water. Keep away from metals. Corrosives
area. Keep containers tightly closed. Store under nitrogen.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate
ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
Exposure Limits
CAS# 7550-45-0:

Russia: 1 mg/m3 TWA

Personal Protective Equipment

Eyes:
Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical
safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face
protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European
Standard EN166.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin
exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin
exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29
CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a
NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved
respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if
irritation or other symptoms are experienced.
