**** SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION ****

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Very toxic by inhalation and if swallowed. Danger of cumulative
effects.

Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause severe eye irritation. May cause blurred vision,
tearing, and conjunctivitis.
Skin:
May cause skin irritation. If absorbed, causes symptoms similar to
those of ingestion.
Ingestion:
May be fatal if swallowed. May cause severe digestive tract
irritation with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May
cause hemorrhaging of the digestive tract. Can cause nervous system
damage. May cause tremors and convulsions. May cause cardiovascular
effects including low blood pressure and shock. Ingested thallium
compounds are extremely toxic, causing convulsions, coma,
conjunctivitis, runny nose, polyneuritis, motor and sensory
peripheral neuropathy, encephalopathy, arterial hypertension, rapid
heart rate, and skin eruptions
Inhalation:
May cause effects similar to those described for ingestion. Material
has a low vapor pressure, so exposure to vapor is not likely. May
cause kidney damage.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated exposure can cause psychic abnormalities such
as anxiety, depression and excitability. May cause adverse nervous
system effects including muscle tremors and incoordination. Prolonged
or repeated exposure may cause corneal damage and the development of
cataracts and glaucoma. Chronic ingestion can cause irritability,
confusion, tremors, memory loss, headache, slurred speech and
anorexia.

**** SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES ****

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing
and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4
cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not
breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult,
give oxygen. Get medical aid. Do NOT use mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation.
Notes to Physician:

**** SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES ****

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases
may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion.
Extinguishing Media:
In case of fire, use water, dry chemical, chemical foam, or
alcohol-resistant foam.

**** SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ****

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated
in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal
container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to
waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the
Protective Equipment section. Avoid generating dusty conditions.
Isolate area and deny entry. Provide ventilation.

**** SECTION 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE ****

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and
wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust
generation and accumulation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on
clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Do not ingest or inhale.
Discard contaminated shoes.
Storage:
Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.

**** SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION ****

Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped
with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate
ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
