EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
DANGER. Corrosive. May cause irritation to eyes, skin and upper respiratory
tract. Ingestion and/or inhalation may result in systemic effects attributed
to removal of calcium from blood.

Acute/Potential Health Effects:
EYES: May cause irritation to the eyes experienced as discomfort or pain with excess
blinking and tear production and redness or swelling of the conjunctiva.
SKIN: May cause mild skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact may cause defatting
or drying of skin.
INHALATION: May cause irritation of the respiratory system.
INGESTION: Can cause gastrointestinal upset, possible burns to mouth, throat and stomach,
can cause systemic effects due to removal of calcium from the blood. Kidney damage is
possible.

Chronic / Long Term Effects: Oxalic acid removes calcium from the blood, renal tubules
become obstructed by calcium oxalate and may cause kidney damage.
Signs and Symptoms of Overexposure: Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Prolonged dermal exposure may cause drying of the skin.
Target Organ Effects: Central nervous system, kidneys
