SECTION 3: PHYSICAL DATA

This item is a light bulb. It has a quartz bulb with metal ends.

SECTION 4: FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA

The body of this lamp is composed of quartz. It is designed to be used only with proper fixtures,
igniters and ballasts. The lamp operates under high internal pressure at very high temperatures
and may rupture unexpectedly. If a rupture occurs, discharge of extremely hot particles into the
enclosure and/or surrounding environment thereby creating a risk of personal injury, property
damage or fire.

SECTION 5: REACTIVITY DATA

Do not touch lamp with bare hands. If touched, clean lamp with denatured alcohol and wipe dry
with a lint free cloth before installing. Quartz can react with skin oils causing premature lamp
failure.

Stability/Polymerization: Quartz is stable at room temperature. Hazardous polymerization cannot
occur.
Incompatibility: Quartz will react with hydrofluoric acid or with fluoride containing compounds.
It will also react with strong alkalis. As noted above quartz can also react with skin oils.

SECTION 6: HEALTH HAZARD DATA

WARNING: THIS LAMP EMITS SHORTWAVE ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION
WHICH IS HARMFUL TO SKIN AND EYES AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SKIN
BURNS AND EYE INFLAMMATION. USE ONLY IF FULLY ENCLOSED IN A
FIXTURE WITH AN ULTRAVIOLET ABSORBING FILTER GLASS LENS. DO NOT
USE THIS LAMP IF THE ULTRAVIOLET FILTER GLASS IS MISSING OR
DAMAGED.

SECTION 6: HEALTH HAZARD DATA (cont'd)
This lamp contains very small amounts of mercury and mercury salts. Breakage of the lamp can
result in exposure to this material. Mercury can cause serious nervous system effects if exposure
continues over an extended period of time. Breakage of a single lamp is not expected to result in
any significant exposure. Do not vacuum broken material with a household vacuum. This will
heat the mercury and exhaust the fumes to the surrounding area.

SECTION 7: SPILL LEAK AND DISPOSAL PROCEDURES

Disposal: This lamp contains enough mercury to fail the EPA Toxicity Characteristic Leaching
Procedure for mercury. As such it would be designated as a hazardous waste. Under the
Universal Waste Rule, this lamp can be recycled using the UWR instead of the more stringent
hazardous waste regulations. This is true in most States but not all. You should check with your
State and local Authorities to insure proper disposal. Similarly, there are exemptions, which
depend on location, volume and status of the generator. These too vary from State to State and
require checking with the State Authorities.

In the event of breakage, sweep up using a dust broom and dustpan. Place broken material in a
plastic bag and sealed container. DO NOT VACUUM WITH A HOUSEHOLD MACHINE. If a
HEPA vacuum with charcoal filter is available, it should be used. The accumulated material may
have to be treated as a hazardous waste. State regulations control the disposal.

SECTION 8: SPECIAL OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION/OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS LISTED
BELOW TO HELP REDUCE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY
DAMAGE AND HELP PREVENT EARLY LAMP FAILURE.

1.BEFORE LAMP INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT, shut power off and allow lamp and
fixtures to cool to avoid electrical shock and potential burn hazards.

2.Install ONLY in fixtures, which are FULLY ENCLOSED and able to contain fragments of hot
quartz. Lens/diffuser material MUST be heat resistant and capable of absorbing ultraviolet
radiation. Consult fixture manufacturer regarding the suitability of the fixture for this lamp.

3.DO NOT operate a fixture with a missing or broken lens diffuser.

4.Protect lamp from abrasions and scratches. Do not install or use cracked or broken lamp. If
lamp cracks or breaks in use disconnect power supply immediately, allow system to cool and
remove lamp.

5.Replace lamp at or before rated life. Allowing lamp to operate until it fails is not recommended
and may increase risk of lamp rupture.

6.Use auxiliary equipment approved by Philips and/or meeting appropriate ANSI standards. Use
within voltage limits recommended by ballast manufacturer.

7.Operate lamp only within specified limits of operation.

SECTION 9: PERSONAL PROTECTION

Hand and Eye Protection: When handling broken lamps use gloves to protect from broken glass.
Goggles or other eye protection are also recommended when handling broken glass.

Avoid handling large volumes of broken lamps without adequate ventilation.

SECTION 10: REGULATORY STATUS

As a waste material depending on your Status (See Section 7) this lamp would be listed as D009.
Shipment of this lamp under DOT regulations does not require any special notifications or DOT
labels. An NRC notice regarding Krypton Content is required by the Philips Lighting Company
NRC license.
