Flash Point:
Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical or CO2
Special Firefighting Procedures: Stay upwind if product is involved in fire. Wear full protective clothing. Use water spray to cool
containers exposed to fire. Water mixed with acid evolves heat and causes spattering.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Contact with organic materials can cause spontaneous ignition. Contact with metals can evolve hydrogen.
SECTION V - REACTIVITY DATA
Stability: Stable. Hazardous Polymerization:
Incompatibility: Sulfur acid is highly reactive and capable of igniting finely divided combustivle materials on contact. Mixes violently with water and reacts with
organic materials with the evolution of heat. Extremely hazardous in contact with many materials, particularly carbides, chlorates, fulminated, nitrates, powdered
metals and other combustible materials. Attacks many metals, releasing hydrogen gas.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Extreme temperatures may release sulfur dioxide.
SECTION VI - STORAGE AND HANDLING
Precautions to be taken in handling and storage: Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a cool dry place. Use only according
to label direction. Do not mix with other chemicals.
Other Precautions: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Avoid contact with skin or eyes.
SECTION VII - HEALTH AND FIRST AID
Acute: Causes Chemical Burns
Chronic: Long term exposure may cause kidne, liver, teeth or broncial damage.
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: Inhalation of fumes or mists can result in irritation or burns to the upper respiratory tract and lungs, pulmonary edema
can also occur. Ingestion will burn the mouth, throat and stomach and can cause death. Eye or skin contact will result in serious burns and may cause blindness.
DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES.
Primary Routes of Entry: Skin, Inhalation and Ingestion.
First Aid Procedures:
Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash exposed areas with soap and water. Seek medical aid immediately.
Eyes: Flush eyes with cool running water for 30 minutes while calling for immediate medical attention
Ingestion: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Give lots of milk or egg whites and water to dilute. Seek Medical Attention.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Seek immediate medical attention
SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PROTECTION DATA
Respiratory Protection: None required in normal use, though NIOSH approved respirator recommended.
Ventilation: Local exhaust - adequate. Mechanical - Not Required.
Protective Gloves: Rubber Gloves.
Eye Protection: Chemical goggles or full face shield.
SECTION IX - SPILL OR LEAK PROTECTION
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE OF SPILL OR LEAK: Use protective equipment to avoid contact with skin or eyes. Neutralize spill with
soda ash or baking soda. Flush area with water using care. Un-neutralized acid evolves heat when mixed with water.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Dispose of in accordance with existing local, state and federal regulations.
