Section VI - Health Hazard Data

ROUTES OF Inhalation? yes Skin? yes Ingestion? yes

HEALTH HAZARDS (Acute and Chronic): ACUTE: Potassium Cyanide Is highly toxic. Oral rat lethal dose has been quoted as between 5 and 10 mg/kg. The
concentration of sodium hydroxide in these samples is sufficient to be the primary hazard when working with these standards. Treat as a corrosive material. Eye:
causes severe eye burns. Skin: Causes skin burns. May cause deep, penetrating ulcers of the skin. Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. Causes severe
pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and shock. Inhalation: Irritation may lead to chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. Causes severe irritation of upper respiratory
tract with coughing, burns, breathing difficulty, and possible coma. CHRONIC: Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis.

COMPONENTS LISTED AS CARCINOGENS OR POTENTIAL CARCINOGENS: N/A

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE: Irritation and/or burns of eyes, skin, digestive tract, and upper respiratory tract, digestive tract. From KCN, weakness,
labored breathing. Ingestion: Corrosive/Asphyxiant may cause abdominal pain, toxic amounts will cause hypotension and death in 1-15 minutes.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS GENERALLY AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Skin conditions, respiratory conditions. Individuals with a history of central nervous system,
heart and lung diseases.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES: Seek medical assistance for treatment, observation and support if necessary. Individuals may show symptoms from
exposure to a combination of substances. Eyes: Solutions are corrosive and contact may result in corneal burns. Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
Get medical aid immediately. Skin: Irritant, corrosive solutions may cause burns. Treat as a chemical burn. Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush with plenty
of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Discard contaminated clothing in a manner that limits further exposure.
Ingestion: DO NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water to dilute salts. Never give anything my mouth to an unconscious
person. Get medical aid immediately. Amyl nitrite should be given only with professional medical advice. Inhalation: Remove to fresh air immediately. If not breathing,
give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid. Notes to physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section VII - Precautions for Safe Handling and Use

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED: Sample spill or leakage, wear protective equipment. Do not touch spilled material. Take up
with sand or nonacid material. It is best to add dry bleach to destroy the cyanide and bag for proper disposal. Diluted solutions may be treated with liquid bleach (hood),
neutralized to pH of 7 and flushed to sewer if local rules permit.

WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Dispose in approved landfill. Materials should be treated with bleach (hypochlorite) and neutralized to a pH of 7 before disposal.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE: Label as poison and store in sealed container.

OTHER PRECAUTIONS* Keep sample out of sewer and water sources. Avoid any contact with acids. Do not heat or concentrate the sample by evaporation.

Section VIII - Control Measures

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION (Please specify): Organic vapor filter if local ventilation is insufficient.

VENTILATION: Local exhaust.

PROTECTIVE GLOVES: Required, impervious, neoprene or nitrile rubber. EYE PROTECTION: Goggles, face shield (8鈥? minimum) may be desirable when
pipetting sample. Diluted solution is considered to be only slightly hazardous.
OTHER PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

EMERGENCY WASH FACILITIES: Provide eye-wash fountain in work area.
