CUT LENGTH CONSUMABLES SELECTION GUIDE

Electrode AWS General Page
Name Number Description No.

Mild and Low Alloy Steel - Oxy-Fuel Gas Welding
A general purpose, copper coated, low carbon steel, oxy-fuel rod
Lincoln R45 R45 4
widely used on mild steel. Good ductility and machinability.

A high strength, copper coated, oxy-fuel welding cut length
Lincoln R60 R60 4
consumable for welding a variety of steels where additional strength
and ductility are needed. Weld deposit responds favorably to heat
treatment and flame hardening.

Mild and Low Alloy Steel - TIG Welding
Triple deoxidized wire containing zirconium, titanium, and aluminum
Lincoln ER70S-2 ER70S-2 5
in addition to silicon and manganese. Produces x-ray quality welds
over most surface conditions. Recommended for TIG welding on all
grades of mild steel.

For TIG welding, Lincoln ER70S-6 has high levels of silicon and
Lincoln ER70S-6 ER70S-6 5
manganese to be used on slightly contaminated base materials.
Higher levels of silicon and manganese allow for better puddle
fluidity and excellent wetting action.

Stainless Steel - TIG Welding
Most frequently used for base metals of similar composition. The
Lincoln ER308/308L 6
dual classification ensures the maximum carbon content is 0.03% to
ER308/308L
increase resistance to intergranular corrosion.

Used for welding similar alloys in wrought or cast form. Occasionally
Lincoln ER309/309L 6
used for welding 18-8 base metals when severe corrosion conditions
ER309/309L
exist, and at times, welding dissimilar steels. Intergranular corrosion
resistance is maximized by keeping the carbon content at or below
0.03%.

Used for welding similar alloys (containing approximately 2%
Lincoln ER316/316L 6
molybdenum). Also used for high temperature service applications.
ER316/316L
The maximum carbon content is maintained at or below 0.03% to
increase resistance to intergranular corrosion. Can be used for
welding molybdenum-bearing austenitic alloys containing 0.03%
maximum carbon.

Aluminum - TIG Welding
Aluminum-silicon alloy for use on many weldable cast and wrought
SuperGlaze庐 4043 ER4043 7
aluminum alloys. SuperGlaze庐 4043 rod is generally recommended
for welding 5052, any 6000 series aluminum alloys, and castings.

Aluminum-mangesium alloy for use on many weldable cast and
SuperGlaze庐 5356 ER5356 7
wrought aluminum alloys. SuperGlaze庐 5356 is generally
recommended for welding any 5000 or 6000 series aluminum alloys.
Excellent for color matching after anodizing.

The business of The Lincoln Electric Company is manufacturing and selling high quality welding equipment, consumables, and cutting
equipment. Our challenge is to meet the needs of our customers and to exceed their expectations. On occasion, purchasers may ask Lincoln
Electric for advice or information about their use of our products. We respond to our customers based on the best information in our
possession at that time. Lincoln Electric is not in a position to warrant or guarantee such advice, and assumes no liability, with respect to
such information or advice. We expressly disclaim any warranty of any kind, including any warranty of fitness for any customer鈥檚 particular
purpose, with respect to such information or advice. As a matter of practical consideration, we also cannot assume any responsibility for
updating or correcting any such information or advice once it has been given, nor does the provision of information or advice create, expand
or alter any warranty with respect to the sale of our products.
Lincoln Electric is a responsible manufacturer, but the selection and use of specific products sold by Lincoln Electric is solely within the
control of, and remains the sole responsibility of the customer. Many variables beyond the control of Lincoln Electric affect the results obtained
in applying these types of fabrication methods and service requirements.
