HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
HEALTH EFFECTS

ACUTE EFFECTS

Hazardous if ingested but large quantities would be needed to produce a toxic effect. Practically non-
hazardous by skin contact.

The product contains a water soluble dye. If ingested or contact is made with the skin, a stain may appear
around the mouth or on contaminated skin indicating that exposure has occurred.

SWALLOWED

Toxic as above.

EYE

Not irritant.

SKIN

Not irritant and not a dermal sensitizer.

INHALED

Little inhalation hazard if used in the correct manner.

CHRONIC EFFECTS:

Because of the acute toxicity of flocoumafen and its intended use as a rodenticide, chronic toxicity studies have
not been carried out.
However, comulative effects of flocoumafen are grossly abnormal prothrombin values resulting in widespread
haemorrhage, reduced clotting function and degenerative changes to the liver.

FIRST AID

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Telephone 131126 Australia-wide.

SWALLOWED

Poisonous if swallowed.
OBTAIN MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione is antidotal).

EYE

Flush eyes with water.

SKIN

Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

INHALED

Remove to fresh air.

ADVICE TO DOCTOR

The active constituent flocoumafen is an indirect blood anticoagulant. Ingestion of a relatively large quantity of
bait would be required before a toxic effect is expected. In general, an increased tendency to bleed could
indicate poisoning.
Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) is antidotal. In cases of suspected poisoning, determine prothrombin time not
less than 18 hours after consumption. If elevation has occurred, administer Vitamin K1 , intravenously in divided
doses, 40mg for adults, 20mg for children daily. Treatment may be required daily for several weeks. Withdraw
antidote with care and monitor prothrombin times continuously for 4 days or more after such withdrawal.

TOXICITY

Acute oral rat: LD50 15,492 mg/kg (STORM Wax Block Bait)
Acute dermal rat: LD50 40,600 mg/kg (calculated)

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
EXPOSURE LIMITS
3
Grain dust, 4 mg/m

ENGINEERING CONTROLS

Do NOT inhale dust.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. When using the product, wear elbow-length PVC gloves. If on skin and after
each baiting, wash thoroughly with soap and water. After each day鈥檚 use, wash gloves.

FLAMMABILITY

Not flammable.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT

Store in the closed, original container in a safe place. Containers which have held bait should not be used for
any other purpose. Pest Control Operations should dispose of empty containers, used bait stations and unused
or untaken bait by burying in an approved dump. In a domestic situation, minimize the presence of excess
baits. When unused baits are in good condition, return to original container for reuse. For empty containers,
damaged or unwanted baits, wrap securely and dispose of in household refuse bin.

Look for dead rats or mice and burn or bury them. Do NOT place in refuse bins or rubbish tips.

MSDS -STORM Wax Block Rodenticide

Ensure baits are removed when rodent activity has ceased.

Ensure containers are correctly labelled and securely sealed.

Not classified as a dangerous substance for transport purposes.

Eye wash and washing facilities must be readily available.

SPILLS AND DISPOSAL

Clear area of all unprotected personnel. Wear protective equipment. Stop spillage if safe to do so by
manoeuvring the container. Place product from damaged container into a clean empty drum remote from
storage area and label. If the damaged container can be repacked, contact BASF Australia Ltd, so that an
overdrum and transport to a nominated BASF location can be arranged. If possible, re-use the material for its
intended purpose.

Do NOT flush to drains or sewers. Do NOT contaminate streams, rivers or water courses.

Sweep up carefully with brush or broom avoiding dust evolution. Place material in open top drum. Seal drum
and bury in an area approved by the local waste disposal authority. Wash surfaces with detergent solution.

Destroy empty containers by puncturing or shredding them. Dispose of the containers at a local authority
landfill. If not available, bury the containers below 500 mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for
this purpose clear of waterways, vegetation and roots.

Empty containers and product should NOT be burnt.

FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD

Use dry powder, CO2 foam or water spray extinguishers.

Unburned flocoumafen may be carried in the smoke from a fire. Wear full protective clothing and self-
contained breathing apparatus.

Confine the use of water to the cooling of unaffected stock, thus avoiding the risk of accumulation of polluted
water from the run-off from the side.

Decontaminate protective clothing before removal.

OTHER INFORMATION

ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

ECOTOXICITY: Toxic to mammals. Moderately toxic to birds. Practically non-toxic to fish and
other aquatic species.
Rodenticide baits and dead rodents can be attractive to mammals and are
therefore hazardous to domestic animals and to wildlife.

PERSISTENCE: Not readily biodegradable.

PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT

This bait is hazardous to pigs, cats, dogs, poultry, birds and wildlife. Do NOT place baits in locations which are
accessible to other animals or birds.

Do NOT contaminate ponds, streams, rivers or waterways with the bait or used containers.

The use of this product for the control of protected native rodents requires permission from wildlife authorities.
