HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS
- SWALLOWED Corrosive to mucous membranes. Causes burns. Swallowing can result in
nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and chemical burns to the
mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract.
- EYE Corrosive to eyes. Contact can cause corneal burns and can result in
permanent eye injury.
- SKIN Corrosive to skin. Can cause skin burns or irritation.
- INHALED Inhalation of mist may cause irritation of the respiratory system.
CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS May cause allergic contact dermatitis on prolonged and repeated contact.
FIRST AID:
- SWALLOWED Rinse mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Give 1-2 glasses of water
or milk. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, position individuals head to keep
airway clear. Seek medical advice immediately (show this Material Safety
Data Sheet).
- EYE Hold eyelids open and flush immediately with plenty of water for 15
minutes. Transport to hospital or medical center.
- SKIN Wash contaminated area with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Remove
immediately contaminated clothing. If irritation occurs, get medical
attention.
- INHALED Remove to fresh air. If you feel unwell, get medical attention.
FIRST AID FACILITIES Eye wash station and clean running water.
ADVICE TO DOCTOR Treat symptomatically. Do not use any kind of neutralising solution in the
eyes. Use clean water only.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION (CONT)
STORAGE Store away from food and keep container closed when not in use. Store
away from acids.
SPILL CONTROL For small spills, wash to drain with plenty of water. For large spills, contain
spill with sand, earth or similar inert absorbent material. Sweep up
contaminated absorbent material and place in suitable labelled container for
disposal at an approved site. Rinse affected area thoroughly with water. Full
protective clothing must be worn by clean up crew. Slippery when spilt.
Care should be taken not to slip on contaminated/wet area.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Use good personal hygiene practices. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
DISPOSAL OF CONTAINERS Rinse empty container thoroughly with water and place in trash collection.
Destruction of containers should be considered.
DISPOSAL METHOD Refer to Waste Management Authority. Neutralise waste with acids before
flushing to drain with copious amounts of water.
