1207 DIAMMONIUM HYDROGEN ARSENATE

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance Routes of exposure
COLOURLESS CRYSTALS, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its
aerosol and by ingestion.
Chemical dangers
Inhalation risk
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes
including ammonia, nitrogen oxides and arsenic fumes. Reacts Evaporation at 20/C is negligible; a harmful concentration of
with bases to produce ammonia. Attacks many metals in airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when
presence of water such as iron, aluminium and zinc, releasing dispersed.
toxic fumes of arsine (see ICSC 0222).
Effects of short-term exposure

Exposure above the OEL may result in death. The effects may be
delayed.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.
The substance may have effects on the skin, mucous
membranes, peripheral nervous system, bone marrow and liver,
resulting in pigmentation disorders, perforation of nasal septum,
neuropathy and liver impairment. This substance is carcinogenic
to humans. Animal tests show that this substance possibly
causes malformations in human babies.

ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
This substance may be hazardous in the environment; special attention should be given to ground water contamination, aquatic
organisms and soil organisms. It is strongly advised that this substance does not enter the environment.

NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
Do NOT take working clothes home.
Card has been partly updated in April 2005. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, Emergency Response. October 2005: see
section Effects of long-term or repeated exposure.
