1254 AMMMONIUM BISULFITE
IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance Inhalation Risk
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW CRYSTALS. Evaporation at 20C is negligible; a harmful concentration of
airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when
dispersed, especially if powdered.
Chemical Dangers
The substance decomposes on heating or on contact with acids
producing toxic fumes including sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides
and ammonia. Reacts violently with oxidants. Attacks many
metals in presence of water at high concentration.
Occupational Exposure Limits
TLV not established.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Decomposes below boiling point at 150C Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 10C: 267
Relative density (water = 1): 2.0
ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
NOTES
Mainly sold as aqueous solution. Insufficient data are available on the effect of this substance on human health, therefore utmost
care must be taken.
