Chapter 1
Summary of URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer
Urine analysis is completed through the colorimetric method by distinguishing the different colors
generated by chemical reaction between the reagent pad and the urine. The conventional testing way visually
determined the color difference between test reagent pads with the color chart provided and recording test
results. However, visual determination for urine analysis is now considered out-dated and a time
consuming method. In addition, visual testing is prone to inaccurate results due to human error and
changing light source. As a result, Urine Analyzer became a logical replacement to minimize variables,
thereby, making urine analysis an accurate and cost effective diagnostic tool.
URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer is designed combining modern optics, electronics, computer technology
with other sophisticated technologies. The advance super-high cold light source testing technology is applied
in optics, enhancing the discerning ability of optical system and highly reducing the influence of ambient
light on test. In system structure, modular system design and large-scale integrated circuit have been adopted
to reduce the interference of each fixture of system and improve its reliability and stability.
Moreover,URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer is convenient for daily maintenance and repair. And this instrument
also enhances the revising ability of pH versus specific gravity and eliminates the influence of uric acid and
alkali on the test urine specific gravity.
System function configuration of URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer emphasizes 鈥淯ser Friendly鈥? with
functionality and convenience as its design principle and meanwhile make everything perfect. URITEK-151
Urine Analyzer has been developed into such instrument integrating urine sample test, data result
management, random diagnosis, material support and other functions.

Operating Principle and Components of URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer

3.1 Operating principle
Urinalysis makes use of monochromatic light scanning the reacting part of test paper one by one to
measure biochemical composition contents of urine by monochromatic light鈥檚 different reflectance ratio
varying with the difference and depth of color. The instrument applies to two monochromatic lights scanning
test paper one by one, and scanning system transforms optical signals into electrical signal, and then the
controlling system processes the electrical signal and computes the reflectance ratio of testing color. The
formulation of computing reflectance ratio is as follows:
Tm 脳 Cr
脳100%
R(%)=
Tr脳Cm
R -- Reflectance ratio
Tr -- Reflectance intensity of reference light of test sector
Cr --Reflectance intensity of reference light of blank sector
Tm -- Reflectance intensity of test sector of test light
Cm -- Reflectance intensity of blank sector of test light
The instrument can get the tested biochemical composition density of the urine represented by the test
sector according to the reflectance ratio. Processed by internal processor again, test results with clinical
significance unit can be displayed and printed out.

3.2 Instrument components
URITEK-151 Urine Analyzer consists of the main controlling unit, mechanical unit, photoelectrical
scanning unit and so on. Figure of structure stands as shown:

Controlling unit External printer
Liquid crystal display

Photoelectric scanning unit
Keyboard input unit

5
The core analyzer is the controlling unit, whose main functions include sending, receiving, memorializing and
processing all kinds of signals, coordinating operation of every component of the instrument. The photoelectric
scanning unit is designed to send and receive the cold light source for collecting and transmitting of digital to
transform optical digital into electric digital. The mechanical unit is to convey and scan test paper commanded by
controlling unit. The liquid crystal display and keyboard are mainly to be facilitated communicating with PC. As
for data output, analyzer has not only the conventional internal heat-sensitive printer but also parallel 25-pin
interfaces and a direct external printer for long-lasting memory of data. The standard R S-232C outlet can be
connected to a PC for controlling the remote analyzer.

According to the selected type of test paper, instrument automatically increases and reduces test items and
automatically ranks the display and printing sequence of each testing specification.
The current clinical number will automatically add 1 after finishing one test. Every test result will be
stored in the memory of instrument. One test produces one record and can store 500 records and this
database is automatically managed to prevent records from being repeated and lost.

Chapter 6
Data Communication between Urine Analyzer and computer

This instrument is equipped with two communication interface sockets, standard RS-232C
communication interface and printer digital interface.
Standard RS-232C communication electric cable can be connected with external computers for data
communication between them; however, the communication can only be established by using a device driver.
A complete database can be established with saving test results by computer. Operators can easily access a
series of programs such as database management, case displaying data printing and so on. Meanwhile, data
can be transmitted on the whole administration network of hospital. Network administration provides service
with medical expert system, which forms automatic aided diagnosis.
Another digital interface can be connected with external printer directly. 鈥淓xternal鈥? of 鈥減rinter mode
option鈥? can be selected in the main menu and thus test results will be transmitted and printed out.

Chapter 7
Maintenance of Urine Analyzer

7.1 Daily maintenance and cautions:
1. Keep instrument away from direct sunlight when testing to avoid affecting accuracy of test result.
2. Never place any things in the front of strip plate (stage) to avoid collision when plate moves out.
3. Keep instrument clean and wipe it frequently with a soft, clean and dry cloth. Use fresh water when
needed. Gasoline, paint dilution, benzene compound and other organic compounds are strictly
prohibited.
4. Do Not wash the Liquid Crystal Display with water. To clean, lightly wipe with a clean, soft and dry
rag or paper.
5. Stage must be kept clean. Wipe using fresh water everyday.
6. Caution: Avoid using test paper with peculiarity in over-high or over-low temperature to prevent
against influence on accuracy of test result (Desired ambient temperature of instrument is 0-40? and
of test paper is 15-25? ).
7.2 Cleaning stage

7.2.1 Daily cleaning
1.Unloading stage
Turn OFF power of instrument when stage stands out, hold the front of two sides of stage and pull it
backward lightly. (Figure 7-1 shows)
2.Cleaning stage
Use Q-tip or cotton ball with distilled water to the wipe stage and the white calibration card.
Examine the white calibration card to ensure that there is no dirt present. White calibration card should be
replaced if any nick and dirt are found.
Warning: Substance that may damage the stage and white calibration card are strictly prohibited from
contact.

19
3.Loading stage
Hold the back of white calibration card, insert it into the plate of stage and insert it fully inside.
(Note: put it fully) (Figure 7-2 shows)

7.2.2 Regular cleaning
Cleaning procedures for uric alkali.
1. Take out stage from the plate of stage.
2. Wipe stage with Q-Tip cotton ball affixing to 0.1 N NaOH, Do Not allow the NaOH solution to the white
calibration card.
3. Clean the remaining NaOH on stage with a wet cloth.
4. Dry the stage with a cotton ball.
5.Place stage on the plate. Read the step 3 of 鈥淒aily cleaning鈥?.

7.2.3 Sterilizing process
The stage should be sterilized some time later when it contacts urine sample. Do procedures as follows:
1. Take out the stage, clean and dry it according to step 1-4 of 鈥淒aily cleaning鈥?.
2. Select one of the following solutions for sterilizing, making solutions as follows:
脴 2% Glutaradehyde-Cidex (sufficient density) is a product that can be found easily on market. Refer to
the detailed instruction on label.
脴 0.05% Sodium Hypochlorite water solution-add 1ml 5% Sodium Hypochlorite water solution (As
Clorox Bleach) into 99ml water to compound 1:100 solution.
脴 Iso-tropylalcohol (70%-80%), there is no need to adding water.
3. Pour sterilizing solution into a narrow vessel with about 10cm height.
4. Dip the stage into the sterilizing solution and keep the white calibration card away
from the solution.
5. Soak the stage for 10 minutes.
6.Take the stage out and clean it. Then load it according to step 3 of 鈥淒aily cleaning鈥?.
7. Restart and self-test begins.
