4. FIRST AID METHODS

Eye Contact : Flush the eyes continuously with copious amount of. water. If irritation
persists seek medical advice.
Skin Contact : Wash the contacted part with water and soap. Wash the contaminated clothes
before being worn again.
Inhaled : Stop/Avoid further exposure. If there is occurrence of irritation in the
respiratory tract, dizziness, unconsciousness, seek medical advice. When
BREATHING STOPS, GIVE RESUSCITATION FROM MOUTH TO
MOUTH.
Date of Construction :
PERTAMINA Date of Revision :
Directorate of Marketing and Business Page : 2 of 7

Swallowed : When more than 0.5 liter of the substance is swallowed, give one or two glasses
of water and ask him/her to drink at once prior to the seeking of medical help in
the Emergency Installation or other Emergency Centers.
CAUTION : Never stimulate the victims to vomit or to swallow anything
when they are unconscious.

Note for Doctors : The swallowed substance can be absorbed into the lungs that may cause
chemical pneumonitis that needs urgent treatment.

5. FIRE FIGHTING METHODS
Fire Fighting Media : Carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder and foam
Specific Procedure in Fire Fighting :
a. Carbon dioxide : Spray it to the front fire from upwind.
b. Dry Chemical Powder : Spray it to the front fire from upwind
c. Foam : When the fire is in a container, spray the foam into the inner
wall of the container, not to the burning liquid, and from
upwind.
When the fire is caused by spill of liquid, spray it to the
front fire until the spill is covered thoroughly, and from
upwind
Personal Protective Equipment : For fires in relatively closed areas, the fire fighters must be
equipped with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Explosion and Fire Hazards : These hazards occur in unprotected storage tanks near the
fire location.
Flash Point : - 45掳 F or 鈥? 43掳 C
Flammable Limits : LEL 1.4%, UEL 7.6%
NFPA Hazard ID : Flammability : 3, Instability : 1
Hazardous Material Decomposition : Carbon Monoxide

6. SPILL AND LEAK HANDLING METHODS
Notification Procedure : Notify the authority promptly about the occurrence of the spills, in
accordance with the determined local authorization when the spills are
suspected to contaminate the water channel.

Spill or Leakage Procedure : Put away all conditions that can enable the occurrence of ignition. Adsorb
the spill by using sorbent, sawdust mixed with clay and other fire inhibitor
materials Clean and dispose it at the determined place of disposal
according to the local regulation

Environmental Prevention : Prevent the entrance of the spill into the water ditches, disposal channels, or
its seepage into the earth.

7. PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling : NEVER SUCK AVGAS 100 WITH YOUR MOUTH. AVGAS 100 CANNOT
BE USED AS SOLVENT OR AS WASHING MATERIAL Explosion proof equipment must
be used and do not do any spraying. On handling the open areas, prevent the possibility of the
occurrence of ignition. Portable containers must undergo proper tests. On being filled, the
containers must be placed on the surface of the ground, whereas their caps must be kept
attached to the containers to anticipate static electricity

Storage : The storage tanks must be grounded and bonded and must be equipped with self closing
valves, pressure vacuum bungs and flame traps. Avoid from flammable substance, fire,
electrics or other hot source

8. CONTROL MEASURES/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Ventilation : When Avgas 100 is used in a relatively closed room, a local exhaust
ventilation must be provided. Ventilation and the equipment used must
be explosion proof

Breathing Protection : Use breathing apparatus when the polluted concentration in the air is
higher than the permissible threshold limit value.

Eye Protection : Use chemical type goggles

Skin Protection : Use leather or PVC gloves. Apply Good Personal Hygiene Practices

Threshold Limit : Value 300 ppm

-----------------------------OTHER TOXICOLOGY DATA --------------------
Laboratory experiments (API = American Petroleum Institute) using experiment animals show that
exposure to high concentration of gasoline vapor in a long period can cause kidney disorder and
cancer, and liver cancer. Effects to reproduction system cannot be proved yet. Repeated exposure to
benzene with low concentration can cause abnormalities in human blood, such as anemia and
leukemia. Exposure to hexane in a long period can cause disorder in nerve system, such as being
numb and paralyzed

Content oil fuel AVGAS 100 DANGEROUS
Highly flammable. The vapor can cause fires. They can cause health disorder, that is irritation to the
eyes, skins, noses, throats, lungs, headaches, queasiness and loss of consciousness. When swallowed,
it can block respiratory tract which in turn can cause death. Long time exposure with this substance
can cause malign tumor in the kidney and
liver. Keep a distance from heat, sparks or jet of sparks. Avoid contacting it with any part of your
body. Avoid inhaling the vapor produced in a long period. Keep the containers
closed. Handle it in a well ventilated room. Its misuse can cause accidents or sickness. Use it only for
mechanical purposes. Do not use it as solvent or skin cleaner. Do not suck it with your mouth.
Date of Construction :
PERTAMINA Date of Revision :

FIRST AID : When inhaled, the victim should be moved away to an open fresh area. If he/she does
not breathe, resuscitation from mouth to mouth should be given promptly. When it is still difficult for
him/her to breathe, add oxygen. Call the doctor immediately.
When it contacts with the skin, wash it with soap and copious amount of water. Wash the
contaminated clothes before being worn again. When swallowed, seek medical advice. Never try to
make the victims to vomit without the doctor鈥檚 supervision. Never give the victims something to be
swallowed when they are unconscious, as it can be fatal.

ATTENTION
The remnant of residue in a container can cause fire or explosion. Do not do any cutting, hitting or welding
near the container. All warning labels must be kept being checked for their existence, so that the container will
be really safe. The warning label should at least include the following : This material is toxic and dangerous, it
