3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
By analogy with the corresponding ammonium compound this material is
expected to be a severe eye irritant, a skin irritant and irritating to the
respiratory tract if inhaled. The acute LD50 of this material is greater than
200mg/kg but is expected to be less than 2000mg/kg, it is therefore classified
as harmful.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Over-exposure may produce the following symptoms -
First Aid
Inhalation - irritating to the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory tract, producing
coughing.
Ingestion - nausea and vomiting.
Eye contact - redness, irritation, blurred vision and pain.
Skin - redness and irritation with possible tissue damage. 聽 聽

remove from exposure and allow to rest in fresh air. Seek medical advice. 聽

attention.
remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water. If
First Aid - Skin
symptoms persist or tissue damage is evident, seek medical attention.
Launder clothing before re-use. 聽

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Although the material is not flammable, toxic fumes will be produced if
involved in a fire. The residue, ash or char left after a fire may have catalytic
properties and may promote the re-ignition of flammable materials and
vapours. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protective
equipment. Use any extinguisher suitable for the surrounding fire. 聽 聽

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES (continued)
Wearing personal protective equipment, (see section 8), collect up the
spillage and store in a suitable, sealed container. Wash the site of the
spillage with large volumes of water. Do not allow wash water to enter
natural water courses.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Local exhaust ventilation should be used and protective clothing, including
Handling (JM)
gloves and eye protection, should be worn. Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply
cosmetics whilst handling. 聽
Store in a closed container in a cool, dry chemical store. Keep separate from
Storage (JM)
incompatible materials such as easily oxidisable or flammable compounds. 聽

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
No Occupational Exposure Standards have been established for this material.
Users are advised to minimise exposure. If necessary, appropriate filter- type
mask, chemically resistant gloves and suitable eye protection should be worn.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
This material is supplied in a stable condition, however, it will decompose, to
produce mono- and di-hydroxy compounds together with hydrochloric acid, if
exposed to water. No specific reaction hazards are known but the Platinum
analogue is reported as reacting vigorously with Bromine trifluoride, a similar
hazard cannot be excluded for this material. 聽

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
LD50 (oral rat) >200 mg/kg.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
There have been no reports of adverse environmental effects due to
Palladium. Palladium chloride, at very low levels, is reported as stimulating
the growth of a species of grass, however, at high levels a toxic effect is
demonstrated. 聽
