2. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON THE COMPONENTS
KARSTEDT CATALYST SOLUTION
Product Formal Name

Product Chemical Family

3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
The principal hazard of this material is that presented by the propan-2-ol
solvent. Propan-2-ol is defined as being highly flammable in the classification
regulations. Propan-2-ol is of low acute toxicity but is reported as being an
eye/skin irritant with the potential to de-fat the skin.
The siloxane is classified as flammable but is not regarded as being
toxicologically hazardous by the manufacturer.
There is no data available for the platinum complex but, it is not thought to
present a significant hazard. 聽

4. FIRST AID MEASURES
First Aid Inhalation of the solvent vapours will irritate the nose and upper respiratory
tract.Ingestion will cause nausea and vomiting. High concentrations of vapour
may cause irritation of the eyes. The solvents may be absorbed through the
skin.
Skin contact may cause redness and irritation, especially if spilled onto
clothing and allowed to remain in contact with the skin. The solvents will de-
fat the skin over a period of time, possibly producing cracking, dryness and
the possibility of dermatitis and secondary infection. For a limited exposure,
the effects will be limited. 聽

Remove from exposure and allow to rest in fresh air. Seek medical advice if
First Aid - Inhalation
symptoms persist.
First Aid - Ingestion Rinse mouth with water and give milk or water to drink. Do not induce
vomiting. Seek medical advice.
Irrigate with clean water or isotonic saline for 15 minutes. Seek medical
First Aid - Eyes
advice.
First Aid - Skin Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water. 聽 聽

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
This material is flammable and if involved in a fire will decompose producing
toxic fumes. The residue, ash or char left after a fire may posses catalytic
properties and may promote the re-ignition of flammable liquids or vapours.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES (continued)
If containers of this material are exposed to the heat of a fire they should be
kept cool by water spray. Fire fighters should wear protective clothing and
selfcontained breathing apparatus. The preferred extinguishing agents are
waterspray or foam, NOT water jet. 聽 聽 聽

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Remove all sources of ignition. Wearing chemical resistant gloves and eye
protection, absorb the spill in sand or other inert absorbent material. Collect in
a suitable container, ready for disposal. If necessary, and for larger spills,
wear respiratory protection. Wash area with water afterwards. 聽 聽

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Good industrial hygiene practices should be observed. Do not eat, drink,
Handling (JM)
smoke or apply cosmetics whilst using this material. 聽
Store in a sealed container in a cool, dry chemical store. 聽
Storage (JM)

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY (continued)

This preparation is supplied in a stable condition. There is no specific
information regarding any reactive hazards of this preparation.
Propan-2-ol is reported as reacting violently with a hydrogen/palladium
combination. Contact with potassium tertbutoxide is reported as causing
ignition. Violent reactions are reported following contact with strong oxidizers.
No reactive hazards are known for the other components.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
There is no specific toxicological data available for this preparation.
Propan-2-ol is the only component for which data is available.
TDlo (oral man) 14432 mg/kg (coma, lowered b. p., dyspnea)
TDlo (oral human) 223 mg/kg (hallucinations, decreased pulse, lowered b.p.)
LDlo (oral man) 5272 mg/kg (coma, lowered b.p., pulmonary oedema)
LDlo (oral human) 3570 mg/kg (coma, respiratory depression, nausea/
vomiting)
LD50 (oral rat) 5045 mg/kg, LD50 (skin rabt) 12800 mg/kg, LC50 (inhal rat)
16000ppm/8Hrs.
Skin rabbit 500 mg - mild irritant, eye rabbit 100 mg - severe irritant, eye
rabbit 10 mg - moderate irritant.
Users should note that mutagenic and reproductive effects have been
reported in laboratory animals exposed to propan-2-ol. The IARC have
classified propan-2-ol as category 3 - human and animal inadequate evidence
of carcinogenicity.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
There is no environmental data available for this preparation. Propan-2-ol is
the only component for which data is available.
LC50 (guppy) 7060ppm/7 days, LC50 (minnow) 11830mg/lt/1hr, LC50 (
minnow) 9.64g/lt/96hr.
When released into water, propan-2-ol will volatilize and biodegrade. It is not
expected to adsorb to sediments or bioconcentrate in fish. Propan-2-ol was
99% degraded by acclimalisted activated sewage sludge. 聽
