PRODUCT:
Backing.
ISSUED: 06/02
SUPERSEDES: None
WRITTEN BY: Chris Mallory

SECTION I
CRANE PERFORMANCE SIDING
1441 UNIVERSAL ROAD
PO BOX 1058
COLUMBUS, OH 43216

TELEPHONE: (614) 443-4841
FAX NO: (800) 733-8469

Product Names Vinyl Siding and Expanded Polystyrene Backing
Product Use Exterior Siding Product
Trademark CRANEBOARD

SECTION II 鈥? HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS
Hazard summary Statement: No hazardous ingredients. Vinyl siding is manufactured from PVC
polymer, inert fillers, process aids, waxes, colorants and heat stabilizers. Expanded Polystyrene as a
finished cellular board, contains less than 1.0 % residual pentane.

SECTION III 鈥? PHYSICAL DATA
APPEARANCE: Varies SPECIFIC GRAVITY: Range NA
ODOR: None BULK DENSITY: Varies
PERCENT VOLATILES: <1% FOAM INGINITION TEMPERATURE: 675 潞 F
PHYSICAL STATE: Solid

SECTION IV 鈥? FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA
Flash Point NA
Flash-Ignition Temperature NA The lowest initial temperature of air passing around the
specimen at which sufficient combustible gas is evolved to
be ignited by a small external pilot flame.
Self-Ignition Temperature: 675 潞 F The lowest initial temperature of air passing around the
specimen at which, in absence of an ignition source,
ignition occurs of itself, as indicated by an explosion,
flame or sustained glow.
Extinguishing Media Water, ABC dry chemical, protein type air foams. (Carbon dioxide
may be ineffective on larger fires due to lack of cooling capacity
which may result in reignition.)
Special Firefighting Procedures Wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in positive pressure
mode. Personnel not having suitable respiratory protection must
leave the area to prevent significant exposure to toxic combustion
gases from any source. In enclosed or poorly ventilated areas, wear
SCBA during cleanup immediately after a fire as well as during the
attack phase of firefighting operations.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Expanded polystyrene is combustible and adequate protection
from sources of ignition should be taken. Hydrogen chloride is a by-product generated during combustion
of PVC material.

SECTION V 鈥? REACTIVITY
Stability Stable
Hazardous Polymerization Will not occur.
Hazardous Decomposition Products Hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon
dioxide.
CAUTION! Prolonged heating (approximately 30 minutes or more) of the product above 200掳C (392掳F)
or short term heating at 250掳C (482掳F) may result in rapid evolution of hydrogen chloride.
Incompatibility (Materials to Avoid) Flames and high temperatures

SECTION VI 鈥? HEALTH HAZARD DATA
Threshold limit value: Not Established

NATURE OF HAZARD: Dust mask may be needed when fabricating with saws or grinding equipment.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES

Inhalation: Consult physician if irritation of respiratory tract. Remove to fresh air.

Eye Contact: Flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes while lifting upper and lower eyelids. Seek
medical attention if irritation persists.

Skin Contact: Not an anticipated hazard, however, good personal hygiene practices are always
recommended for material handling.

Ingestion: Not an anticipated hazard.

SECTION VII 鈥? SPILL AND LEAK PROCEDURE
Waste disposal method: Dispose of waste in accordance with all federal, state/provincial and local
regulations.

SECTION VIII 鈥? SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: Wear a NIOSH/MSHA 鈥? approved respirator specific for chemicals listed in
Section II and VI, as applicable, when concentrations exceed those limits listed. Comply with OSHA
1910.134 (29 CFR).

Protective Equipment: Safety glasses should be worn during cutting and grinding.

SECTION IX 鈥? SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
None

SECTION X - TRANSPORTATION
For domestic transportation purposes, vinyl compounds are not classified as hazardous by the U.S.
Department of Transportation under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, 1983 Edition.

DOT Proper Shipping Name: Not applicable
DOT Hazard Class: Not applicable
DOT Label: Not applicable
UN/NA Hazard No: Not applicable
