Section 11. Toxicological information
Toxicity to Animals Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 1600-2895 mg/kg (Mouse), Slightly toxic.
1900->10,000 mg/kg (Rat), Practically non to slightly toxic.
Acute dermal toxicity (LD50): 3535 mg/kg (Rabbit), Slightly toxic.
>1000 mg/kg (Guinea pig), no more than moderately toxic.
Eye Irritation: Slightly irritating (Rabbits)
Skin Irritation: Moderately Irritating (Guinea pigs)
Slightly irritating, 2.0/8.0 (Rabbits)
Allergic skin reaction was reported in 1-2% patients with preexisting skin condition (eczema) in a
patch test. Other patch tests using human volunteers resulted in no allergic skin reactions. No
allergic skin reaction was reported in guinea pigs and rabbits after repeated exposure.
Benzophenone is readily absorbed through the skin of monkeys. Single inhalation exposure was
not toxic to rats but did cause respiratory tract irritation. Effects on the liver, kidney and blood
were reported after repeated oral administration to rodents. However, no toxic effects were
recorded in rats given diets containing 20 mg/kg bw/day for 90 days. Effects on the liver were
reported after repeated in halation by guinea pigs. Benzophenone did not induce tumor
formation after repeated skin application in mice and rabbits. No genetic changes were reported
in standard tests using bacterial cells and animals.

Section 12. Ecological information
Ecotoxicology 96-hr LC50: 15 mg/l Fathead minnow (flow-through).
Benzophenone was 100% lethal to waterfleas and sideswimmers at 100 mg/l. 10 mg/l was 50%
lethal to sideswimmers. 100 mg/l was not lethal to fathead minnows, flatworms or snails. No
time limit was available for these studies.

Fathead minnow larval growth was reduced at 2.62 mg/l and survival was reduced at 8.28 mg/l
after 96-hr exposure. In as 32-day study on embryonic development, survival and growth of
fathead minnows, benzophenone was reported to decrease survival and increase the number of
malformations at 6.38 mg/l and higher. However, it did not effect embryo hatchability. In a 32-
day embryo-larval test on fathead minnows, benzophenone was reported to reduce growth at
1.78 mg/l.

Exposure to benzophenone had no effect on limb regeneration in Japanese newts.
Chemical Fate 12% BOD was attained in 5 days using sewage inoculum under aerobic conditions.
Benzophenone is expected to biodegrade in soil. Leaching in soil is expected. Biodegradation
in water may occur. The BCF ranges from 3.4 to 12 in fish (Cyprinus carpio), in a test conducted
according to OECD protocol 305 C. Bioaccumulation is not expected in fish.

Section 13. Disposal considerations
Waste Disposal Recycle to process, if possible. Consult your local or regional authorities for disposal methods.

Section 14. Transport information
