Introduction EPIKURE Curing Agent 3164 is a proprietary oligomeric polyamine for structural and
coating applications. It features exceptional strength, toughness and elongation in epoxy
formulations. However, the high viscosity and slower cure speed can make it less
attractive for use in coating formulations. Enhanced formulations can be prepared using
EPIKURE Curing Agent 9550 to lower the viscosity and EPON Resin 8111 to accelerate the
cure. These changes minimize the impact on properties, especially the flexibility, while
retaining a high degree of toughness.

General A blend of EPIKURE Curing Agent 3164 and EPIKURE Curing Agent 9550 (92.5:7.5) will
Information reduce the curative viscosity by 50%, while retaining the flexibility of the neat EPIKURE
3164. This blend also has a longer pot life, and is tougher and more chemically resistant.
Both the neat EPIKURE 3164, and the blended curative can be accelerated for faster
drying times using a multifunctional polyacrylate-modified resin like EPON Resin 8111 with
minimal loss in flexibility. Table 1 provides comparative data for these systems. Other,
lower functionality, polyacrylate-modified resins like EPON 8021, EPON 8161, and EPON
8115 will NOT accelerate the cure of EPIKURE 3164, or the blend curative.

Table 2 presents information on the superior flexibility of the EPIKURE 3164/ EPIKURE 9550
blend when compared with EPIKURE Curing Agent 3125, at two combining ratios; EPIKURE
Curing Agent 3266, and EPIKURE 3164. The EPIKURE 3125 is a standard polyamide curative
with a non critical combining ratio. The EPIKURE 3266 is another flexible curative.
