Health Hazards(Acute and Chronic):
Inhalation: Inhalation of mist may cause mild upper
respiratory irritation. May be absorbed from the mucous
membranes.
Ingestion: A lethal dose of boric acid is 5-30 grams for
an adult. 100 ml of this solution contains no more than 2
grams of boric acid.
Skin Contact: Boric acid can be absorbed through the skin
with symptoms paralleling those for ingestion.
Eye Contact: May cause irritation and redness if splashed
in the eyes.
Chronic Exposure: Prolonged absorption causes weight loss,
vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, convulsions and anemia.
Kidneys and liver may be particularly susceptible.
Carcinogenicity: NTP-No IARC Monographs-No OSHA-No
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: See "Health Hazards" above.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure:
Persons with pre-existing skin disorders or eye problems,
or impaired liver, kidney or respiratory function may be
more susceptible to the effects of this solution.
Emergency and First Aid Procedures:
Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. Give oxygen
for breathing difficulty. Call a physician.
Ingestion: Get immediate medical attention. Induce
vomiting by giving several glasses of water and sticking
finger down throat. Never give anything by mouth to an
unconscious person. Skin Contact: Flush with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes. Open cuts will absorb boric
acid.
Eye Contact: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least
15 minutes.
