3. Hazards Identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Non-hazardous in bulk liquid form at low to moderate temperatures. Prolonged exposure to skin may possibly cause
dermatitis Inhalation of oil mists or vapours from hot oil may cause irritation of the upper respiratory tract.
For short and long term exposure effects see Section 11 Toxicological data.
Eye Effects: Mildly irritating to eyes
Skin Effects: Prolonged exposure to skin may cause chapping, cracking or possibly dermatitis. Repeated
contact with similar oils has caused oil acne, hair follicule inflammation and fatty tumours
(lipid granulomas).

Inhalation Effects: Negligible breathing hazard at normal temperatures (up to 38掳C) or recommended blending
temperatures. Elevated temperatures or mechanical action may form vapours, mists or
fumes. Inhalation of oil mists or vapours from hot oil may cause irritation of the upper
respiratory tract.
Ingestion/ Low toxicity on ingestion. Has laxative effect. If vomiting occurs following ingestion, small
amounts of oil may be aspirated into the lungs causing dangerous pneumonitis or edema.
Oral Effects:
MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Repeated contact may aggravate pre-existing skin
conditions.

4. First Aid Measures
Flush eyes with large amounts of water until irritation subsides. If irritation persists get
Eyes:
medical assistance. Keep eyelids open whilst flushing.
Flush with large amounts of water, use soap if available. Remove grossly contaminated
Skin:
clothing, including shoes, and launder before re use. Discard contaminated clothing which
cannot be properly cleaned.
If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting. Keep at rest. Get prompt medical attention.
Ingestion/Oral:
Using approved respiratory protection, immediately remove affected victim from exposure.
Inhalation:
Administer artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Keep at rest. Call for prompt
medical attention.
Not applicable
Other Information:
5. Fire Fighting Measures
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray to cool surfaces exposed to fire and to protect personnel. Shut
off 鈥渇uel鈥? to fire. If a leak or spill has not ignited, use water spray to disperse the
vapours and to protect people attempting to stop the leak. Either allow the fire to
burn under controlled conditions or extinguish with foam or dry chemical. Try to
cover liquid spills with foam.
Avoid spraying water directly into storage containers due to danger of boilover.
Fire and Explosion Hazard:
Containers may explode if exposed to fire. See also section 4, First Aid measures,
and section 10, Stability and Reactivity.

Special Protective Equipment No special protection required for small outdoor fires, Indoor fires and significant
for Fire Fighters: outdoor fires, wear a positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
which meets appropriate standards operated in positive pressure mode and full
turnout gear.
For Flammability Properties - see Section 9
6. Accidental Release Measures
LAND SPILL:
鈥? Eliminate sources of ignition. Warn occupants of downwind areas of fire and explosion hazard. Prevent liquid
from entering sewers, watercourses, or low areas.
鈥? Keep public away. Shut off source if possible to do so without hazard. Advise police if substance has entered
a watercourse or sewer or has contaminated soil or vegetation. Take measures to minimise the effect on the
ground water.
鈥? Contain spilled liquid with sand or earth. Recover by pumping (use an explosion proof or hand pump) or with a
suitable absorbent. If liquid is too viscous for pumping, scrape up with shovels or pails and place in suitable
containers for recycle or disposal. Consult an expert on disposal of recovered material and ensure conformity
to local disposal regulations. See section 4 鈥淔irst Aid Measures鈥?.
WATER SPILL:
鈥? Eliminate sources of ignition. Warn occupants and shipping in downwind areas of fire and explosion hazard
and request them to stay clear.
鈥? Notify port or relevant authority and keep public away. Shut off source if possible to do so without hazard.
Confine if possible.
鈥? Remove from surface by skimming or with suitable absorbents. If allowed by local authorities and
environmental agencies sinking and/or suitable dispersants may be used in non-confined waters.
鈥? Consult an expert on disposal of any recovered material and ensure conformity to local disposal regulations.
See section 4 鈥淔irst Aid Measures鈥? and 10 鈥淪tability and Reactivity鈥?.
7. Handling and Storage
HANDLING:
Keep away from sources of ignition. Avoid inhalation and contact with skin and eyes. In case of insufficient
ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Practice good personal hygiene. Wash hands after handling
and before eating. Launder work clothes frequently. Discard saturated leather goods and other contaminated
clothing items which cannot be properly cleaned.
STORAGE:
Combustible materials should be stored away from extreme heat and strong oxidising agents. Store in tightly
closed containers in cool, dry and well-ventilated areas. Ground all equipment used to handle or store product.

Personal Protection:
Engineering Measures: Ensure good ventilation under all working conditions. Ensure that eye wash station
and emergency shower are close to working area.
Respiratory Protection: No special respiratory protection is normally required. For high airborne
concentrations with adequate ventilation, use an approved organic vapour
cartridge respirator.
Hand/Skin Protection: For casual contact PVC gloves are suitable. For direct contact of more than 2
hours, Viton庐 or Nitrile gloves are recommended.
Eye/Face Protection: Chemical splash goggles in case of splashing.
Hygiene Measures: Practice good hygiene. Wash hands after use and prior to consuming food and
drink.
Other/General Protection: Long-sleeved clothing to minimise contact. Safety shoes as necessary for the job.

For a comprehensive description for the various toxicological (health) effects which may arise if the user comes
into contact with the substance or preparation refer to Section 3 Hazards Identification.
Animal Data:
LD50 value: Acute oral toxicity : > 5000 mg/kg (rat)
Mutagenicity:
No Data
Carcinogenicity:
Severely hydrotreated oils have historically been found to contain very low concentrations of Polycyclic Aromatic
Hydrocarbons (PAHs). Severely refined oils have not generally produced skin tumours in animal skin painting
studies; however, conflicting data exists for the carcinogenicity of severely refined oils. IARC considers the
evidence for carcinogenicity of severely hydrotreated oils inadequate. Sulphur additives often found in the oils may
serve as a confounding factor. Severely hydrotreated oils are not classified as carcinogenic by IARC, NTP, or the
State of California.
