4. FIRST AID MEASURES

FIRST AID PROCEDURES
Inhalation:
Remove person from source of exposure and move to fresh air. Get medical attention if irritation
persists.
Eye Contact:
Flush immediately with large amounts of lukewarm water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids should
be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Do not rub eyes. Get medical attention
if irritation persists.
Skin Contact:
If skin becomes irritated, remove contaminated clothing. Wash area of contact thoroughly with
soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists.
Ingestion:
Drink extra water. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Get medical attention if irritation, nausea,
vomiting, pain or diarrhea develops.

OSHA revoked the Final Rule Limits of January 19, 1989 in response to the 11th Circuit Court
of Appeals decision (AFL-CIO v. OSHA) effective June 30, 1993. See 29 CPR 1910.1000 (58

Ventilation and other forms of engineering controls are the preferred means for controlling
exposures.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT

Respiratory Protection:
If irritation is experience or exposure limits are exceeded, respiratory protection should be worn.
NIOSH approved respirators for particulates with a TLV of greater than 0.05 mg/M3 are
generally acceptable. If respirators are used, a respiratory protection program as described in 29
CFR 1910.134 must be established.

Skin Protection:
Wear gloves to prevent unnecessary skin contact. Wear regularly cleaned work clothing. Use
good personal hygiene. Showering and changing into street clothing after work is desirable.

Eye Protection:
Wear safety glasses or chemical goggles to prevent eye contact. Do not wear contact lenses when
working with this substance. Have eye-washing facilities readily available where eye contact can
occur.
