Emergency Overview

HMIS庐: Health 2 Fire 4 Reactivity 0 PPE: H

HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. POISON.
FLAMMABLE. Contents under pressure.
Contains methanol. Keep out of the reach of children.

Potential Health Effects, Based on Individual Components (May Vary Among Individuals)
EYE: May cause irritation, redness, and pain. Compressed liquid may cause freeze-burns.

SKIN CONTACT: Compressed liquid may cause freeze-burns. Irritating to skin. Prolonged contact may cause
irritation and dermatitis. Methanol can be absorbed through the skin in potentially harmful amounts, leading to the
effects described under 鈥淚ngestion鈥?. High-pressure injection of oils, greases, or other petroleum products under
the skin can have serious health consequences. The initial wound at the injection site may not appear to be
serious at first; but if left untreated, could result in disfigurement or amputation of the affected part.
INGESTION: Ingestion of methanol may cause death from even very small amounts. Methanol can cause eye
pain or discomfort; permanent visual impairment; blindness; leg cramps; abdominal or back pain; central nervous
system depression; anorexia, vertigo; nausea; apathy; coma; liver and kidney damage; and acidosis. Small
amounts aspirated into lungs during ingestion or vomiting may cause pulmonary injury and death.
INHALATION: Asphyxiant. Inhalation causes central nervous system depression, headaches, nausea, dizziness,
drowsiness, confusion, unconsciousness, pulmonary edema, and irritation of the nose, throat, and upper
respiratory system. May cause blindness, liver damage, and may lead to the other effects described under
鈥淚ngestion鈥?. Inhalation of high concentrations could be fatal.
Date Prepared: September 26, 2002 Page: 2 of 4
MSDS Number: 3007
CHRONIC EFFECTS/CARCINOGENICITY: Not known to be listed in this category with NTP, IARC and
OSHA.

SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
EYES: Immediately flush with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses if
applicable. Hold eyelids back for thorough rinsing. Get immediate medical attention.

SKIN: Wash thoroughly with large amounts of soap and water and rinse for at least 15 minutes. Remove
contaminated clothing and launder before reuse. Discard contaminated leather clothing or goods. Contact poison
center or physician. Get immediate medical attention if any adverse reactions occur, or if injected under skin.

INGESTION: CALL POISON CONTROL OR PHYSICIAN for most current information. DO NOT induce vomiting
without professional advice. Drink two glasses of water or milk, if subject is conscious and can swallow. If
vomiting occurs, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration into lungs. If subject is drowsy or unconscious, place
on left side with head down. If possible, do not leave subject unattended. Get immediate medical attention.
INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air. Give rescue breathing or CPR, if needed. Immediately contact poison
center or physician. Get immediate medical attention if over-exposed.

SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
FLASH POINT: For propellant -156oF (LEL 1.8; UEL 9.5)
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Foam, CO2, dry chemical.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Treat as a petroleum fire. Use NIOSH-approved self-contained
breathing apparatus and protective clothing when fighting fires involving chemicals.

SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURE: Remove all sources of ignition, including sparks and static electricity. Ventilate
area thoroughly. Wear proper personal protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus
(SCBA). Dike to prevent spill from spreading. Collect with compatible absorbent material, using non-sparking
tools and equipment, and place in metal container with tight fitting cover. Do not vacuum. Keep out of sewer,
septic system, ground water, and open waters.
SECTION 7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE
STORAGE TEMPERATURE (MAX): Not available.

HANDLING AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS: Store in dry, cool, ventilated area in tightly closed containers out of
the reach of children. Do not cut, weld, drill, or otherwise expose empty or full containers to heat, sparks, pilot
lights, open flames, static electricity, or other sources of heat or ignition. Protect from direct sunlight. Bond and/or
ground containers and equipment during transfer. See Sections 5, 6, and 8 for additional handling precautions.
Vapors may be heavier than air and may cause ignition away from storage or handling location. Use non-sparking
tools. Do not eat, drink, or smoke in chemical use or storage areas. Empty containers may be hazardous.
SECTION 8 - PERSONAL PROTECTION/EXPOSURE CONTROLS
ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Provide sufficient general and local exhaust ventilation to maintain safe exposure
levels.

EYE PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS: Chemical splash goggles or safety glasses with side shields, as required
by work conditions.

SKIN PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS: Chemical-resistant gloves and clothing, as needed, to prevent skin
contact. Wash hands before eating, drinking, or smoking.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Use the proper NIOSH-approved respirator. Use Self-Contained Breathing
Apparatus (SCBA) for spills or unknown levels.
