3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
This material is a severe skin irritant following prolonged contact and is
expected to be a severe eye irritant. Inhalation of this material is expected to
produce irritation of the respiratory system .Toxicological tests indicate that it
has an LD50 of 1277 mg/kg and is therefore classified as harmful.
There is no evidence that Palladium compounds possess the allergenic
properties of their Platinum analogues.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Over-exposure may produce the following symptoms -
First Aid
Inhalation - irritating to the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory tract, producing
coughing.
Ingestion - nausea and vomiting.
Eye contact - redness, irritation, blurred vision and pain.
Skin - redness and irritation with possible tissue damage.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Although the material is not flammable, toxic fumes will be produced if
involved in a fire. The residue, ash or char left after a fire may have catalytic
properties and may promote the re-ignition of flammable materials and
vapours. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protective
equipment. Use any extinguisher suitable for the surrounding fire.

Wearing personal protective equipment, (see section 8), collect up the
spillage and store in a suitable, sealed container. Wash the site of the
spillage with large volumes of water. Do not allow wash water to enter
natural water courses.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Local exhaust ventilation should be used and protective clothing, including

gloves and eye protection, should be worn. Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply
cosmetics whilst handling.
Store in a closed container in a cool, dry chemical store. Keep separate from

incompatible materials such as easily oxidisable or flammable compounds.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
This material is supplied in a stable condition. No specific reactive hazards
are known to Johnson Matthey.Users should, however note that the Platinum
analogue is reported as producing an explosive product when boiled with an
alkali, a similar hazard cannot be excluded for this material.
11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Skin rabbit 100mg/24hr severe irritation.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
There have been no reports of adverse environmental effects due to
Palladium. Palladium chloride, at very low levels, is reported as stimulating
the growth of a species of grass, however, at high levels a toxic effect is
demonstrated.
